Thanks Jim,
in the meantime, both are primed and the base has got 1 layer of black already. I can't save the windscreen, I shall order one from Rob this week. I have ordered the turquoise paint and am awaiting delivery. Yes the foam is completely gone, but I have a bit sturdier foam already to replace it

What is that all over the axles and hubs in the first picture above? Looks like melted plastic or something similar.

That is clingfilm. I wrap the hubs with it and ue a piece of sticky tape so that I can paint the base without painting the hubs too.

Is that a matte black paint? It looks very good now that the base is done. No taking apart. Does the suspension still work well? I found that if the metal for the spring is too thin or rusty the vinegar weakens it and the suspension sags. I always practice assemble the toy before closing it up to make sure. That is how I found the Rolls Royce and the Rambler Cross Country spring plates were shot. One Rolls Spring plate melted away it was to old and rusty.

This is satin matte black with 1 clear coat. I scratched the paint from the rivet that holds the suspension in place, so it looks better. The suspension work fine.

It looks great and I like the matte better than the gloss Dinky used to use.

Time for a quick update. Things are coming together nicely. I have painted all three cars and am awaiting a window unit for the El Camino. I commissioned the paint for the Ford Taunus, which is very close to RAL2002.

Looking nice and shiny in red. Nice color match on the El Camino. These are all going to look great when finished.
