Time to show a restoration project that I started a while ago. Nobleco asked if I was interested to do a resto for a fellow countryman of him. I said: let's do it, if I can help out I will do that. So I received a package from Saskatchewan with the Dinky 562 Dumper Truck. The dumper was in heavily played with condition, but structural very good, apart from a dent in the front left wing/bumper area. Time for a full overhaul. The engineering on this dumper is good. Dinky really thought about te steering mechanism as you can see from the photos

So it is work in progress

Looking good, I was going to ask the question was the bumper dented into the mud guard , it gives taht impression looking at it from the underneath but I can see it is how it should be from your finished work, it would have taken some doing to dent it.

I thought long and hard how to get rid of the dent, but it is virtually impossible to do that without damagng the casting further. I thought of heating the spot but then it is so difficult to hammer it into shape

Looking at it does not look like a dent as the bumper sits at the right level to the front

Does the driver, seat and steering wheel swivel to the rear still? I did not know the dumper did that until I looked at some pictures. Two photos I came across

Great restoration and I am sure our mutual customer will be happy with the results. Have you sent him a link to these pages yet? I am sure he would love to see them.

Thank you. Have not sent the link yet. The seat should swivel, but it is stuck and I could not turn it easily

If the truck is still apart, maybe try to fit a piece of sand paper between the post and the underside, if possible. I know you don't want to harm your paint so it is tricky to get working now. I doubt it would break but you just never know. At least it is facing forward now.
It sure looks good though.

Scott sent me a 960 Albion too. That is an interesting mode to restore

Yes, I can imagine as I have one here from a friends collection. It is near mint. Good luck and take pictures, please.

I had to order a new window unit, because the original one was too bad to save

Came out nice and clean. Do you wire brush the parts after the caustic soda or do you have another method?
When I used Caustic Soda it turned the casting black.

I use a nylon wire brush to clean it from the black residu. After that a copper wire brush
