This is a bit rougher casting and there are no words on the base.

I painted the base plates for the taxi and the mail van Satin Black.

I chose to do this in the Maroon color rather than red, blue or green. Just some of the colors that can be used on this Taxi.

You can see the same imperfection in the casting almost in the same place as the Mail van.
And the inside

Sorry but I forgot to take pictures of the masking job on this Taxi
Here is it painted with Gloss Black

I am not as happy with this paint job like I usually am. I have a bunch of touch ups to do now.

The inside of this taxi was also masked off so I could paint the rear fenders and axle supports black.

This one is a mess and I should be able to make it look much better. If not, I will strip it and start over.

Well, I think the masking is very difficult in this one, because of all the ridges and edges in the casting.

Yes, it was not easy. The touch ups are going well though.
Here is a picture of the roof before I filed. Took a while so this is not a White Metal casting or a few strokes would have done the trick. I filed for 10 minutes to get this right. Post #2 shows the roof as I received it.

I think most of the touch ups are done on this taxi and the Royal Mail van. Shopping day today so tomorrow I will look them over and I think they are ready for assembly.

Bases drying after Satin Black. To see the other side go to the 34b Royal Mail van thread.

Okay, back to the 36g Taxi. I have done the touch ups and add the silver grille, headlights and meter. It is looking much better now.

And the base, at least is shows some detail.

Oops, missed behind the left rear fender. A bit of black is showing.

Early Pre war Dinky 36g Taxi were made of lead or zamac and had the open rear window. That is what this is supposed to be a copy of. The rest were all closed windows from Post war on til 1950 when they were discontinued. There is also reference to the very late models having the Painting hole in the base filled in.
