Does anyone out there know the value of this collectable? I think it dates from 1956 or 57, and is one of the original styles with only the 2 pick ups mounted on the front axle assembly. It is in red and has MGA 1 on the front number plate. The driver is in 1950\'s racing gear (Stirling Moss white overalls and light brown pudding basin helmet with peak). It\'s in its original box (although one lid of the box has become detached). I don\'t know if its ever been used. It is in mint condition (the clear plastic windscreen is still in its original cellophane wrapping and the electrical contacts look like new). Any help re value before I try to sell it would be appreciated.

It is from mid-late 1957 (there were exactly ZERO slot cars of ANY kind in 1956) and is not a rare item as VIP was very successful in their first slot car venture. The MGA and Austin-Healy were sold in a racing set (with two different box illustrations between 1957 and 1961) featuring a built-up metal track with a plastic slot. Controllers were simple push buttons. The cars were also sold separately (as in yours) and are pretty commonly found. Their market value appears to never exceed about $75.00 US, while a complete mint and boxed set rarely exceeds $200.00.
