LUFF, I had a similar looking set = the track and those grey base stands look like they were an Aurora product. The time period was maybe 1965-66. I think there was a common denominator between Aurora and Playcraft. That is the best I can tell you.

Hi RVREVO i have tried it once yes it did work , it is just getting a power transformer i used a  OO  rail transformer because of the variable input to test it .

The cars do not use a standard motor (armature and coil)  it uses a coil pot and the flat metal plate vibrates up and down turning the surrated wheel , it does say on the box patent pending i assume for the motor.

Now this interesting vibrating armature drive mechanism. I wonder how many are around these days in a complete set.

Playcraft Highways was the forerunner to Aurora slotcars. Produced in England 1959. 4 cars were available, the two above and a Chevrolet Impala and a Ford Lorry/Truck. The company was sold to Aurora around 1961
