Here's where you can discuss all general diecast stuff - mystery items, ask who made a model of a particular car, ask for info about an obscure manufacturer or chat about anything else related to vehicles smaller than 1:1 scale!

TOPIC: This bus keeps bugging me

In the figurative sense..

I concerns a bus /coach which quite clearly states who made it and where, yet still all does not seem right.

It's about this bus made by Concept Models L.T.D. in the Netherlands.

The box it comes in lists an address in London:

Model Road & Rail
44 Central Rd
Worcester Park (London)
KT4 8HY

If you look up that address on google maps you will find the name of a model shop that no longer exists: Model Road & Rail

The shop closed down but three years ago at least I read they were still present at fairs and on ebay.

Now it seems then that this bus was made for this shop or packaged specifically for this shop.

What I find strange is that I cannot find any other model from Concept Models, not one.
Also the fact that the company has the L.T.D. extension which is normally not used in the Netherlands. Maybe it means something else than Limited, why else would they use three full stops.

I really would like more information on Concept models, who they were, when they existed,  maybe a list of  items they made / make.
Not that the bus itself is so very special, but as said, it does not leave me alone.

So any clues would be very welcome, this story is not finished yet ...

Hi Politom2
I think you may find that the letters stand for LONDON TRANSPORT DESIGN
People think that London transport only use Double Deckers but the A.E.C RF was the only single deck bus made for and used by them in the 1950s and 1960s

Thanks a lot Luff, that could well be true!

Jim, I found the picture on the internet  once I founf the name of the shop via google maps.

So the picture of the shop is not from Google maps itself.

This is a shot from above. You can see they still label the shop as Model Road and Rail.
I use Google earth pro. I don't think it comes with Maps.
Last Edit: 2 years, 4 months ago by Nobleco.

I can get to google maps but it sure is slow to show anything. I get the same shops there though so you must have an older picture. I just re installed my Google Earth Pro about 2 weeks ago. I like it as it is free, you don't have to sign in and it is reasonably up to date. Even if it still shows my house from 2013 LOL, Small towns don't get updated

If I put my address in Google a Google map shows a picture that is 5 years old .
So it may depend on what information you put in , information on the internet stays on for ever somewhere.

Model Road & Rail have been gone for 5 years or more. I didn't go there frequently because I thought they were a little expensive, and they specialised in trains & buses, not Studebakers .There were  2 guys who ran the shop, one of them is still active on Ebay his user name contains 444 but I can't remember the rest (I know that is no real help !). The LTD is behind the company name on the box, which implies it is/was a limited company, and as you say LTD isn't used in Holland it's B.V. or N.V.

its not unusual for a model to be made in one country or another.
Especially if it is a relatively unknown manufacturer.

Sometimes the more established toymakers would pick it up.
Corgi has a habit of taking over existing models.

In case of these buses, try to collect as many variants as you can. More information will turn up.

I know nothing of this model but I have a model of an STP Turbine Indi car made by Faracars of France. They made just one diecast model although I read in a small blurb once they intended to produce several of historical racers. Maybe your model is much like Faracars. Released something, but folded and no recorded history of them to be found.

Here's a link to the Faracars model
