Here is a good one. Everybody remembers the Herbie movies?
Well here are 3 of them. Jn

I guess you could include this Dinky Porsche 356A (Code 3) which I believe you could get a VW motor in as an option. I do know that there were quite a few models over the years offered in Canada with VW motors in place of the more expensive Porsche Motor. Jn

Hi Jim, my dad told me a story when he was at the Mechanical Tradeschool way back in the fifties that one of their assignments was to make the teacher\'s Porsche 356 more economical to drive. Dad\'s solution was very simple. He swapped the twin carb of the Porsche to a single carb from a Beetle.
Those three Matchbox Herbie\'s are awesome.
Anyhoo, got a couple more to show too.
These are all Corgi\'s; Juniors, Whizzwheels, and an odd siren noise maker.

Nice beetles (and other rear-engined VW-derived vehicles!) everyone, but seriously people, there must be more toy bugs out there than this! The following are all the ones I found just by looking to my right!

Corgi 1/43 VW Police Beetle. A bit battered, but with unusual wheels. Corgi got a LOT of mileage out of their Beetle casting. It started life in the mid-sixties with steerable front wheels and opening bonnet and boot, and ended its run in the late 70s with Whizzwheels and no opening features.

\"Boom Bug\" from Motor Max (formerly Zylmex/Zee). Even though it dates from the period long after Zee\'s heyday, I think this is a nice model. I especially like the speakers that have replaced the back seat!

Hot Wheels 2009 Custom Beetle (in K-Mart Exclusive colours)

Welly Cabriolet
Moving on to the Beetle-derived...

Lone Star Flyers Microbus

Matchbox Microbus

Politoys 1500 Variant Squareback in yellow

And the fastback in green

And the estate again, this time in the same green as the fastback.

A couple more...
Lintoy-ERTL Beetle with opening bonnet.

And last year\'s dragster Fastback from Hot Wheels (although this is stretching it a bit...)

True, I like the original variant better. The fastback and the notchback. Both from Dinky Toys.

Here are a couple more of my VW Bugs. Both, as you can see, need restoration. The Polizie VW needs hood and trunk lids and the jewel headlights need to be glued back in. They are just resting there for now. The Blue VW has been badly over painted and needs to be restored to original for my collection. I have had others and sold them, even gave one to a friends son as he has just bought a bug. He does not have it any more and does not know what happened to it. Bummer.

All my pictures are clickable and they will take you to my Photo Bucket pages where you can see more of my toy restorations and my collection. It is a bit of a jumble but will organize it one day. Just fixing the hundreds of links is the problem LOL

Jim
