A nice one this - I finally managed to snag a red FF for my Playart collection:

It has the opening bonnet - lots of Playarts that had opening bits later had them sealed to make them cheaper to produce, but I\'ve only ever seen the FF with the opening bonnet. Come to think of it, I\'ve also only seen it with the early wheels. Maybe Dinky realised they\'d scaled down their FF model and threatened to sue!

The chrome base is still nice and shiny too - often the chrome flakes off.

Thats one tidy Jensen! Nice to see the chrome plated baseplate hasnt flaked too badly, and the holes which were made in the baseplates for the first 2 years (7100-7123) castings, perhaps for a Dinky style box which hasnt been rediscovered yet or as an aid to factory assembley..........
I have seen a few Jensens with the one peice speedwheels. The only casting which didnt make the transition from hubcaps to safety wheels was the UNCLE car,and it was also deleted from the lists on the back of boxes & cards c1975, so perhaps the tooling broke???
Gary & Si who you know from MCCH have so far only found one white baseplate UNCLE car between them so we can be confident that the deletion came in the final hubcap year which was 1974-5.Chrome baseplates exist with the Schuco style hubcaps which replaced the petal pattern in 1973,so white replaced chrome not long afterwards as no chrome baseplates have turned up with one peice safety wheels!

I have a white-baseplate Safety-Wheel UNCLE Car. And I had another one (now long gone) as a child. The one I have now is packed away at the moment, but it\'s in thse group pics I took ages ago:

Naturally, it\'s missing the spotlamps! The one I had when I was little was green.

ETA:
I found it. here it is by itself:

Amazing to see these pics of your yellow UNCLE, and this is the only Playart car I can recall having seen that hasnt had the baseplate casting altered for the change. This is certainly rarer than the Rover 2000!

If I remember right, this came off eBay on a Buy-It-Now for 5 Euros. And I hesitated cos the back window has that little crack!
I\'m sure I\'ve seen at least one other UNCLE car with safety wheels, though, as well as the one I had when I was little. Besides the Rover and the impossible-to-find DAF, the one which seems to sell for the most is the Escort XR3!

Is there a list somewhere of what Playarts were copied from which larger models? The Jensen was copied from the Dinky FF, the Fiat Dino from the Mebetoys model, the UNCLE car, Cortina GXL and Rover from Corgis. Were there others?
