As I could not get the photo's done. I thought I put it in writing, you can make up the relevant cars yourself, if you wish.

My first car and last Renault was a Renault 5 TL. Bought it second hand at 7.500 guilders.
I only had 6.000 in my pocket, so my father lent me 1.500, to be paid back in monthly instalments of 100 Guilders. That's what I did and my mother gave the 100 guilders back to me secretly. Shhhttt, don't tell papa. Neither a bad car nor a good one, just a run of the mill French car.
Next came a Ford Fiesta 1100S in black with yellow stripes with Minilite alloy wheels. Very nice car, stuck to the road like glue. When my eldest daughter was born I bought a Ford Escort 1300, more a family car. A horrible bad car, didn' keep it long and traded it in for a very luxurious Ford Taunus. Good car but already outdated looks when it was launched.
Then came a batch of Volvo's, first a 244 sedan, next a 245 estate and a 740 sedan, indestructable cars with high milage on the clock. After my divorce I had to slow down things a bit so away with the Volvo. In came a small Fiat Punto. What can I say, it was a means of transport nothing more.
Gradually things went back to normal so another even more luxurious Volvo 245 estate was bought.
Then came a trio of company cars: Volvo 440, Ford Mondeo estate and a Seat Toledo. All just run of the mill cars. I destroyed that Mondeo in a bad crash (the only one I had in my life) in England.
In 2002 I left my longstanding job in the financial business and went to look around, doing all kinds of other things. So the company cars stopped and I bought the then lastest New Mini. The best car I ever had. Excellent quality, good response from the engine and chassis, really a nifty car.
Slowly but surely my interest in every day cars started to decline. My yearly mileage dropped considerably and driving on those ever over crowded busy roads, no longer my cup of tea. Also the present day cars, whatever brand, are just pieces of tin and plastic without any soul and they really do not wake me up.
So away with the Mini, bought a cheap Kia Picanto, next a Daihatsu Sirion II, and now I have a Daihatsu Materia. A car I own for 10,5 years now. I never kept a car any longer than 4 or 5 year, which goes to show I don'care a lot anymore. That Materia is an odd looking, but very practical thing. And as long as it runs, I will keep it. I don't think I will buy another car (who knows). A car is not even in my top 10 of things I deem important.
What I do like are oldtimer cars, vehicles with soul and a classic look and feel. I owned a 1960 Jaguar S Type, boy did that thing rust.
I also had a Westfield Super Seven ( Lotus/Catherham clone). Bloody fast car, I did some racing with it but found out I did not have alot of racing blood runing in me. Racing is expensive, notably when it lands on your own pockets.
Finally I had a 1978 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II. Nothing compares to a Rolls Royce. It gave me heaps of driving pleasure but also loads of worries and it was expensive to say the least. I sold it about 2 years ago.
My main means of transport is my e-bike, making more miles on that bike than with my Daihatsu.

Your Daihatsu Materia iis chassis is the same as my Toyota Vitz. Apparently the chassis was donor to a good dozen variations

Yes ondeed. My brother had added spotties under the bumper, and i had bought these wheels for $900.

I think this was what sold the car for much more than it was worth

Was sleays hoping one of these would still be about as it is an old favorite

That is always good to see the car you sold still driving around. Shows it was a good car and....should you have sold it?
My Hyundai is having problems again. The alternator has gone a second time in just over a year and a half. Last time it was done on warranty and this time it will also be done on warranty. That is nice as it is a $600 hit each time. Might be thinking of selling it now that it is problem free. Time to get a full size pickup truck. Half ton with an 8 foot box but that makes it too long when you put it on an extended cab body. Probably get the 6.5 foot box. Been looking and most are 4x4's and I don't need one of them. Time will bring the right one to me as I am in no hurry with Fall here and Winter coming. Already calling for snow on the passes between here and the Okanagan and the Coast. Time to get the winters back on next week.

Here is another one on the day we picked it up and drove it home 80 miles in Auckland NZ. Not sure I would get away with it these days.

Great to see old photo like this. I did something similar with a 1928 Graham back in the early 1970's. Bought the car for $25.00 and had a trailer to put it on but it would not fit and we could not make it all sit on the trailer. We towed it home with the back rims on the roadway. Left marks that were visible for quite some time afterwards. Your right, can't do that these days.
