Here they are, I forgot to say the gold one made an appearance in the Film East Is East, I did google this & someone passes the comment "a series 2 Hillman Hunter I am sure this was mine" sorry but this car was most certainly mine & we spent the day at London Bridge , Borough Market filming in the rain. The cars reg's were AYL144T & GBY899J.

Why do I have the feeling our Turkish friend is gone already.........in that case looking up things was a waste of time.

Thanks for placing your cars Andy. Always funny to see your cars were not sold with us, or just had other names.

I think Australia bagded them as Sunbeam & the Middle East as The Paykan which modified the body.

Nice looking car and too back about that accident. Here in BC we can buy the write off back from our insurance company and restore it and have it inspected so it can go back on the road. Looks to me it was just too old for the insurance to bother with. There is a certain year they only go back to for repairing depending on the damage. A new back end and some body work would have done this car right.

It was fully comprehensive classic car insurance , the rear chassis was twisted if you look at the jacking points you will see how the outrigger on chassis took the impact, perhaps now it would have been saved but the assessor said it would never run straight if repaired.
I bought the car back & stripped it to a bear shell & the parts went to other enthusiasts.
The shame is it ended my love for owning another classic car.

Yes. so important to have the proper insurance. Glad you got your due compensation. Buying it back to use the parts was a great idea. Over here in Canada a frame can be straightened if it is a full frame vehicle. These newer models with uni-bodies and the like can not be straightened up easily and it is very costly. That is why they are junked. I can tell if your car was a full frame or not.
Still, a shame to lose it and sad it killed your love for classic cars. You do need money to keep some of them going though.

Some years back we took a ride to the coast, while stood admiring the view I heard this thing chugging up the road - it sounded like an old river barge motor, bob-bob-bob-bob.
To my amazement it was a 1951 600cc Panther with husband and wife on the bike and 2 kids in the sidecar. Got talking to the guy and he used it everyday for work.
I'm not a motorbike man but I did like this. Hugh

I have not heard of this Panther before. British and single cylinder 600 cc motor. No wonder it went Pop pop pop. Reminds me of a Matchless motor only they had 2 cylinders. Looks like it was a good bike by the wear and tear on it. Daily use you say. Nice.
