TOPIC: My vehicles

Thanks Theo, the tyres are solid, no air. This could cause future problems, because when they are worn out (hopefully not in my lifetime) you need a real specialist, and those are very hard to find.

Great story and what a great bike. You don't see these every day. Must be a trick to get on and off though and take a bit of practice.
Thanks for showing in detail, the school and the restoration. Also seeing the kids in traditional garb is nice to see. You look good in that suit by the way.

You should see me in my normal clothing, I also look nice.....haha.

When dressed up I have a really old hat, gloves and tie. Also I wear a watch and chain from 1910, from my granddad. I only wind it up for the occasion, and it runs good.

I bought that bike a few years ago, and Penny Fartings are from 1869-1885. Intact ones are extremely expensive, and only to be seen in museums. There are few companies which make expensive new ones, which look authentic. When searching for one, I came across someone who had three, which he bought around 1965. The guy rented bikes and mopeds to groups of tourists, but the PF's were impossible to ride of course. I bought one, and still had some work to do on it. Especially the handlebars needed attention. I had one made after my wishes. The front wheel needed a lot of adjusting, and further some details werd done.

Riding it is difficult, but it can be done. I never rode one before, but watched Youtube films about it, and when I tried it, I stayed on it. It does not have lamps or brakes,so you really have to look ahead what is happening.

You step with one foot on the little step above the rear wheel. With the other foot you step and gain speed. Then you jump into the saddle.

Great bikes, icons of an era. Although I never had one, I was already into mopeds and.....girls.

Andy, thanks for showing us your bikes. These were around but I was already heading for my 30's and into hot cars. I did think that this is what you were referring to when you said large wheel in the rear. I also remember the bikes with the Banana Seat. High sissy bars and high handle bars but same size wheels front and back. I was just getting out of bicycles at that time. I did have a 1958 Raleigh 3 speed peddle bike from about 7 to 16 years of age.

Nice shots of the bike when you bought it. I also like the Top Hat you have. I used to wear one all the time back in the mid 70's LOL

And this is the bike after the treatment: new chromed handlebars, new push peddles, wooden handgrips, chrome bell, the frame was striped and name added, front wheel respoked, saddlebag, front and rear 'forkheads' refreshed, ornaments on both forks,    front logo added, chrome coat protector added, and new Gazelle nuts and bolts.

I find it interesting viewing these pictures and you have done an extensive renovation of this over a century old bike. I also note that the rear tire is treaded whereas the front is not. Interesting. Nice coat protector too, does it actually work? Wooden hand grips are a nice touch too.

My bike had this logo on it for Raleigh Cycles. It was just stamped tin with no color back then.
