Nacoral used very similar looking hubs, but they had rubber tires - not a good idea, as it turned out, since the plastic hubs reacted with the tires causing the infamous melting wheels.

No doubt this one was once loved very much judging by the playwear, but it is complete and now this Europa has been added to my Gran Toros collection

Holes just like the real one - for cooling?

Cooling yes. Nothing missing but decals. Racing Number 2 on the hood, trunk and doors as well as the Union Jack just behind each door.

Karls, thanks for sharing those images

Looks good. Does this car depict a larger engine? Karls showed one that has a truck space behing the engine which looks like a mid- engine model. Yours seems to be a rear engine model.

Nobleco - I think Mebetoys/Mattel just winged it and did not represent the engine correctly.  This was the only Europa option (shown on the real car photos)

As it is a toy, I don't doubt that at all. Makes perfect sence from a kids point of view. I don't think these were sold as collectors items, just pocket toys.

Hi
I seem to remember as a Lotus 'Europa' they came with the Renault transverse engine and transmission, giving the mid engine look.
But as the Lotus 47 it came with the (inline) twin cam engine from the Ford Lotus Cortina, hence the rear engine look.
Have fun
Terry

probably too much design work and expense to create a true representation. So they most likely just made the rear compartment all engine. Young toy buying boys would not have noticed
