I really should have taken a photo of the packaging, but didn't. I got this 1/18 Sun Star '71 Mustang off eBay. It was badly listed, so I got it for only £1.04! The seller said the wing mirrors were broken off and loose inside and that it was very dusty (this last was very true!) So quite the bargain - but it got posted to me wrapped loosely in large-bubble bubble wrap, placed inside a supermarket carrier bag which was then tied shut and had the address label stuck on it! I'm amazed the post office accepted it. Oh, and the seller sellotaped the wingmirrors to the roof too!!!!

Anyway, it survived - there's a tiny hairline in the rear window that may or may not have been there before its trip through the mail. Luckily the sellotape didn't take any paint off either. I've put the mirrors in the boot til I can figure out how to get them back on.

I really like this model because it's a base Mustang, not the Mach 1 everyone else makes a model of. No hood scoops, no grille with inset lights and no trim panel between the tail lights.

I must say, these Sun Stars are nice - and very hefty too, as this one's pretty heavy!

Despite the bad packaging, the model still looks good and the price was reasonable too

I have 12 Sunstar Routemasters and they are heavy and very detailed

I think you got a cracking deal there. I have only one Sun Star model Ford Escort RS Turbo and it is full of detail I love it.

I too also have had some badly packed parcels recently models wrapped in carrier bags and put inside a cat food box with no other protection so they rattled about a bit but luckily for me they ad survived the the ordeal.

I have yet to begin collecting Sun Star models.

As I already have a large assortment of 1/18's and a couple of 1/16's, I'm thinking of going into 1/12th with a few Veedubs and several Morris Minor 1000.

problem is that they're very expensive.

Quite an amazing story you have there, I had the same problem with another ebay-seller.

It's nice to see another mustang-model for once. Don't like the level of detaill though, sorry. I'm a great fan of mustangs (who isn't) and I like Sun Star models, but this one looks very... basic... more like a Burago or Solido model.

anyway 1.04 is a bargain, great catch!

The detail levels are definitely not up to those of the Greenlight 68 Mustang I showed recently - partly I think that may be because Sun Star designed the model so they could do a Mach 1 and a drag car version off the same body without changing too many details on it.

Actually, when I bought this, I bought another 1/18 model off the same guy (that got packed in the same way - and survived even more miraculously!) and I really was surprised by the lack of detail on that; it's a Road Signature Cadlliac Eldorado. I'll try and do some pics over the weekend.
