Krul - My Mercedes has a black base with holes and no seats!  My German Marklin book from 2002 lists 4 versions.  1 plastic with seats and 3 metal.  The metal ones had silver baseplate, black, and then black with 'Made in Western Gewrmany'. That's all I know.

Marklin Mercedes 300

I obtained this “Adenauer” Mercedes in repainted condition black over the original blue paint and I firstly planned to restore it in blue again.
But as I could not find the right shade of blue I sprayed it in silk nearly black.
With a little bit of detailing, I think, it obtained a nice distingushed look.

I see them now and as I wrote you Nicely done and I really like the satin black paint job. Really suits the car well. What year model is it based on? An old girlfriend of mine back in high school had a Mercedes 180D, I think. Four door car but small motor and boy, did it stink. I think it was a late 50's car. Was fun to drive around in. I do remember the wood grain dash and it was very comfortable, leather seats and all. The engine was not too loud but is was not a nice smelling car. Diesel fumes.

Thanks Jim,

I think this model is based on the type W186 which was built in the 1951 - 1957 period.
Looking at the small rear lights I guess it is an early type.
But maybe there are "specialists" among us who know exactly.

Recently I finished the restoration of a Märklin Borgward Isabella please see the pictures.

Looking at the BORGWARD characters on the bonnet In my opinion Märklin did a very very good job in detailing. Also back on the hood you can find the name Isabella.

Many years ago back in the 80-ies of the past century I restored a Märklin Ford Taunus 15M (with the globe in the front).

Both very nice cars of the fifties.
Together with my Adenauer Mercedes I now own three Marklin models, a very modest collection, but they go well with my Dinky Toys.

Very nicely done and you should be proud of these toys. They all look great.
Question? Do these cars have 14mm tires on them in the Marklin fish bone or herringbone style? My supplier sent me 14mm Marklin tires instead of the 18mm for trucks that I ordered. Just wondering if all Marklin cars have 14mm tires on them.

Hi Jim,
The hubs on the Adenauer Mercedes are 10 mm diameter and the hubs on the Borgward and Ford are 8 mm diameter.
I put 18 mm herringbone tires on the restored Mercedes which I ordered at MK-models at that time.
The tires on the Borgward and Ford are still the original herringbone examples.
