Yes, we know it's a little bit of a contradiction in terms, but here's where you can talk about Norev, Minialuxe, Siku, Polistil, Tomte, Auburn, Sun Rubber or any other ready-made model car that's made of plastic or rubber. Hey, they're still cast in dies!

TOPIC: Tomte Laerdal Company.

just dug around in the grandchrildrens toy box .picked these up at a car boot some years ago

the first two have the name moulded inside Tomte Laerdal

( VW pickup and landrover) but the citrone DS19  only has 21 and a reversed N but the axles and wheels look the same

That is interesting to note about the 21 and reversed N someone will work it out for us as I don't have a clue apart it might be a prototype.

Ths site says the location of where Tomte were made (Stavanger Norway) is on the inside left side of the body.   Is it on yours also?

you are right tomte2007 had to get a magnifing glass out to find it . the N or Z could be the tool makers mark if they had more than one mould or mould maker?

A friend dropped this Scania Vabis made by Galanite Sweden which is on similar lines to those made by Tomte Laerdal.

That is the huge advantage to these Tomte pieces.  If I had dropped my Tekno Scania Vabis from the same time period, I would be crying!    Tomtes just bounce and keep going!

Thanks Karls.

Yes one of the advantages of being made from vinyl is the durability of the toys.

I checked up on the Wikipedia and found that the Svenska Galanite Industry was based at Loddekopinge Sweden and they specialised in the production of vinyl and plastic toys and anything else I suppose that was made from this durable vinyl plastic and was often referred to as unbreakable plastic.

Galanite mainly made their toy cars and trucks in 1/42 scale and 1/32 for some larger verieties. They were often made from seven simple parts like 4 plastic wheels, two metal axles and the main part the body of the car or truck. These toys had child friendly soft rounded edges and came in bright fun colours.

Tomte Laerdal and Galanite had something in common in europe while Auburn Rubber Company in the USA also made similar type toys thus replacing those well known rubber toys from years past.

Me I am just a Child at heart.

I have acquired my first Tomte Laerdal now. It is  the #6 Renault Floride in green I picked up at a local garage sale. Sad really as I remember passing up a number of them over the years. I did have some as a boy, and am becoming rather fascinated with them again, especially the colour varieties. Anyway I think I may start collecting them in ernest now and see where I can get to.
