Yes, we know it's a little bit of a contradiction in terms, but here's where you can talk about Norev, Minialuxe, Siku, Polistil, Tomte, Auburn, Sun Rubber or any other ready-made model car that's made of plastic or rubber. Hey, they're still cast in dies!

I now have the complete set of the "MiniKit" cars including a colour variation on the Zephyr the nice thing about this Zephyr is that it is the very early Hi-line version with the "Honeycomb" grill which I am not sure any other models were made of this.

I have pictured the friction motor which was made up from the kit & as these cars are tiny would have quite a task for the young modeller to put together.

The cars are a Ford Zephyr, Morris minibus, Standard Vanguard estate , Sunbeam Rapier, Armstrong Siddley & the Ford Escort 100E estae.

Can I just correct a detail in the #4 post by Andy66, the 'FROG' kits are 1/16th scale, not 1/20th.

I have a mint in box Russian issue Vauxhall Victor estate still in kit form and an amazing tool modification is the leading edge of the Victor's bonnet. It has had a 'Tab' moulded to it to aid with the opening of this component.

The original Frog issue does not have this and when the kit is built properly, the bonnet was difficult to open, you needed a fairly long finger nail to get it open.

It is fairly well known about the Frog kits going to Russia and just re-issued onto their toy market, but in fact they were quite serious about having these kits, because they did not have their own tooling for any of the kits they made.

'DONETSK' started in 1973, with tooling sourced from many toy and kit companies around the World.

It is often said with the above car kits they are from 'NOVO', but in fact Novo (later to become 'NOVOEXPORT'), did not have any marketing connection with them as afr as I know, the 'DONETSK' company logo appears on the box lids of the Three car kits made in Russia, not the 'NOVO' name.

The Frog listing is shown here...

F.600 = Jaguar E-Type.

F.601 = Vauxhall Victor estate.

F.602 = Ford Consul Cortina.

F.603 = Dennis A.V. Ambulance.

F.610 = Morris 1100.

The Donetsk listing is shown here...

M.1 = Morris 1100 (in Orange & dark Green box).

M.1E = Morris 1100 'Emergency' car (in Orange & Blue box).

M.2 = Ford Consul Cortina (in Red & White box and a Rainbow box).

M.4 = Vauxhall Victor estate (in Orange & Blue box and Turquise & Pink box).

Only Three of the Frog car kits went to Donetsk with a clever Fourth car kit being created by adding a roof beacon to the Morris 1100 to make an 'Emergency' car, hence the catalogue number of 'M.1E'.

Frog as a kit making company was closed around 1976, the car kit tooling went to Donetsk around the early 1980's.

Well corrected Rollerman , I don't know where I got the 1/24 scale from as 1/16 is marked clearly on the box. I would like to see the Dennis Ambulance as this would be a nice piece.

Do you have any pictures of inside the box or is it sealed, it is great to see this make.

Re: Frog kits by Triang 5 years, 10 months ago #10

The Dennis Ambulance is very hard to find, I have never seen one, but a really good boxed example has been sold on Ebay for about £300.

I will do some pictures of the Vauxhall for you showing the inside and parts sprues etc.

Many thanks Rollerman, I gave a seller around 15 years ago at an auto jumble £15.00 for my unmade one , the made up one my wife bought me from a museum in Cornwall , it was an exhibit & the guy said to call him when the holiday season was finished, I do not know how much she paid as it was a present.

I managed to get the Vanden Plas 1100 Princess this week.

I got all the ones I had out & have pictured them, they stay as I bought them a complete finished, made up but stickers not put on & un- made.

Each different model has it's own number plate.

The boxes can be made into a garage or petrol station.

Out of curiosity I put the Minic 1/20 Mini with the Quick Fit one & they are the same scale.

I remember lusting after the Frog Dennis Ambulance and the Jaguar E Type kits as a youngster on holiday in the mid-1960's. The shop on the caravan park where we stayed had them for about three years running, as well as a good range of the Spot-On "Tommy Spot" gift sets. Unfortunately, just one of the kits would have wiped out most of my holiday money, so I never got one. There was a Victor Estate kit on Ebay recently, sadly achieving a higher price than I could justify. I hope the eventual buyer gets a great deal of pleasure from owning it.

I have the E-Type aswell as the Victor's & the Cortinas, seen the 1100 for sale but never the Dennis Ambulance I would like to have that as it looks great.
