TOPIC: Riviera hooks ?

Riviera hooks ? 5 years, 6 months ago #1

I've got many Buick Riviera. And considering gold variation, I noticed that one I have hasn't got the same hook the other ones have. They all have except the one on the right a hook like the one in the Gift Set 31.

The right one has a hook like the Toronado have.

I must precise that, altough the rivet looks strange on the picture this copy is totaly original.

Hello Corky,

The hook on the right was used on other Corgi models into the 'Whizzwheels' years, so the hook on the left seems to be the very first type made and they changed over to the other design during the production of the Buick.

Thanks Rollerman.

But the Riviera has been withdrawn in 1968. When did the Whizwheels begin exactly ?

Whizzwheels where first used on 344 Frerrari Dino sport that was released in September 1969

Hello Corky,

'WHIZZWHEELS' were first introduced in September 1969 and collectively classed as the 'Red Spot' design by collectors and the first car to have them fitted was #344, Ferrari Dino.

These were replaced during February 1970 by the '8 Dot' design and the first car to have them fitted was #343, Pontiac Firebird.

The fact that the Buick Riviera was deleted in 1968 does give us a date of when the rear towing hook design was changed and you lucky person, have got both types on your Buick models...!

In fact, I didn't mind about that, but I was curious just enough to ask for an advice.

I'm not a gold riviera specialist but have just some copies to notice one at least is different. Have to continue my observations.
