TOPIC: The "437" Superior Ambulance - two questions

The "437" Superior Ambulance - two questions 4 years, 3 months ago #1

Gold Boarder
Hello,
I have two questions in regards to the "437":

While all the 437 I do own come along with the top of the clear bulb being viewed from outside, (first picture), from time to time one can see versions on auction as illustrated in second picture - looks like a seperate, coloured hood or handpainted?

How did they leave the factory?

Second question: regarding the flashing mechanism, there is one operated by the axle rotation, while another one seems self operated - starts blinking after a while without moving the car. How does this self blinking mechanism technically work???

Best regards

Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang.

Essentially the Cream over Red Ambulance was first with the flashing light activated by a mechanism built into the baseplate. This always or should have a Red bulb showing through the roof.

The model was retooled in 1966 to have this mechanism removed and the flashing was created inside the bulb, these tend to be of the clear type and the model was painted Blue over White.

And there are two small extra lights in front and two in the rear. I wonder how they work?

'Trans-O-Lite' system, you knew that Kees and you posed the question just to make members come on here and post a comment, well it won't work my friend you'll have to come up with a better question than that, Ha, Ha.

Don't think, the blinking mechanism is in the bulb, because I used a standard bulb and it is working as well (without moving the car)

So what appears red is a red bulb, or a hood above the bulb?

Yes, the Red part is a type of cover because the bulbs were un-coloured glass. Also note the instructions above stating the bulb is a special flashing type.

Thanks!!

Can't remember to have seen that bulb cover as repro spare part...??

Re: The "437" Superior Ambulance - two questions 4 years, 3 months ago #10

Platinum Boarder
The first type can be bought a repro part, no problem.

I am aware of the repro battery cases, but not of the bulb covers.

Do you have a link for me?
