TOPIC: Nice combinations

For a change herewith a few pictures of two Dinky Toys from my collection:
The 2CV Vespa 400.
The blue one is still in original condition, the orange example left the factory in blue as well but I restored this one in the "rarer" orange colour.
With new windows from Modelcarparts this one looks spic and span again.

Very nicely done, the orange one looks brand new. Your original is in fantastic shape too.

Tanx Jim,
Just for the record the orange is an authentic Ford Colour from the seventies.
They called it "Sebring Red"
Back in the eighties I bouht a number of obsolete repair lacquers for cars from a local paint shop and it still worked well for spraying.
I also used it for two Fodens, my favorite truck.
Together with Revell dark blue (nr. 54) you get another nice combination.

Best Regards - Wolter

Four nice combinations with the no. 151b / 620 Transport Wagon. Pre-war the regular combination was with the Cooker Trailer and Water Tank. Post-war is was often found in combination with no. 161b AA Gun on Trailer. Pre-war this AA Gun on Trailer was to be found in combination with the no. 161a Search Light Lorry, together making part of the no. 161 Mobile Anti-Aircraft Unit gift set, the fifth combination (in fact the first). Kind regards, Jan

Great looking models and fine examples of the Dinky Military of that era. I see in the last photo that the tires are failing. What is the red on the back of the Transport wagon?
Thanks for showing up your great sets.

Jan, are you going to replace the deformed tires from the last set?

Re: Nice combinations 7 months, 2 weeks ago #670

Platinum Boarder
They haven't been pumped up since late 1939, Theo, and I do not have a working pump that small! New tyres would look too artificial compared with the worn eighty years old models and fortunately they do not have to fight battles anymore.
The red must be rust. With the use of a magnet we demonstrated that the metal applied for this example contains a high amount of iron (very unusual). A magnet does not firmly cling to zamac. Kind regards, Jan

Excellent condition indication the different shades of khaki Jan and thanks for explaining the magnet test detecting the iron contained in zamac casting as this one must be showing its true age.

Two coaches that remind me of my early childhood and are a must for my cabinet.
Observation Coach 29f - used to see these in London near Victoria Station where B.O.A.C. had a terminal where these would be coming and going most of the time.
Single Deck Bus 29e - reminds me of going on holiday with my family in late 40's and very early 50's.

Beautiful examples of an era gone by. It is great that you actually saw these buses "live" and that you were able to travel in them. I would love to have traveled in the Observation coach and sit in the back row. Must have been an astonishing experience for a little lad!

There used to be buses similar to the green one in the metropole Melbourne, Australia, that used to belch out black diesel smoke back in the 1950's. Never gave it much thought till now. Pollution at its best. Then again steam trans still ruled the world too in those far of days of yesteryear. Cheers.
