What's New on Toy Collector

Toy Collector is faster than ever with more improvements on the way, 1p/1p Auctions & $10 rebate specials, Seller upload programme & Dinner with Marcel Van Cleemput!

More Speed! And Improvements on the Way!

Aviation Retail Direct BannerThis week, after much preparation, we moved the entire site to a brand new server. This will make it run smoother, load faster and eliminate the need for downtime to backup data. It also gives us more storage space, so those of you who've had issues with uploading images or similar problems when trying to add data should never experience this again. In short, this should make your Toy Collector experience even better, and ensure that we have enough capacity to keep the new marketplace running super-smoothly!

Toy Collector is a large and complex site, and we wanted to make sure the server transition went as smoothly as possible, which - as above - required a large amount of prep work behind the scenes and this has taken up all of our time and focus of late. Now the server move is complete, we'll have more time to tackle any and all usability issues. We know that in spite of our efforts, some of you are still having problems with PMs not appearing in your inboxes, and others are encountering issues with having to login multiple times when you come to the site.

We have been looking at both these issues as best we could but will now be able to tackle them full on. We also want to know any other usability issues you've encountered and what you'd like us to be tackling as a priority. You can do so by PM'ing me or just dropping me an email at the usual address, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Bargain Bonanza with 1p Auctions & Rebates in the Marketplace!

Aviation Retail Direct BannerAs I'm sure you've all noticed, the amount of items up for sale in the  marketplace has been increasing by leaps and bounds with over 2,000 listings at the time of writing!

That makes over 200 items a day added over the last month! And that we've doubled the market's size in just four weeks! And that we'll triple our size in the next month if we continue at this rate!

In fact I'm so pleased with how fast the market's growing, I've come up with two specials to celebrate!

Grab yourself a 1p bargain!

From Friday, November 11, I've arranged with our member Indrindri that they'll be listing one auction item every day with a 1p start price (that's 1 cent to those in the US and 1 Euro Cent to those in the Eurozone!) and 1p postage to any destination in the world!

All the items will be desirable vintage diecast in excellent-to-mint condition, with many items boxed. Plenty of Corgi, Dinky and Matchbox among them too! One item a day will be listed for 30 days, with the day's item appearing on our homepage, in our twitter feed, on our FaceBook page and in our new ToyPedia Tumblr, so follow any of those and you won't miss our on your chance to grab a bargain!

Buy a Buy-it-Now and get $10 back!

Buyers choosing Buy-It-Now won't be left out either, because this week only, if you buy your first Buy-It-Now item, once you've paid for the item, you'll get a $10 rebate paid directly into your MoneyBooker account! (that's US$10.) There'll be one rebate per member and the rebate will be made on your first Buy-It-Now purchase only, so choose wisely and bear in mind that if you buy a $10 item, you'll be getting it for the cost of postage alone!

And watch for more specials like this coming soon - we like being the marketplace it pays to use! Not the one that you pay through the nose for!

Sell! Sellers - Let Us Upload for You!

Aviation Retail Direct BannerWhile we're spreading the love with our buyers, we're not forgetting our sellers!

We have lots of sellers already online, but we want more, so we're offering a one-off uploading service!

If you have inventory listed online, whether it's on your own site, on eBay or another E-commerce site, and you'd like to have it listed on Toy Collector's marketplace too, just tell us where to find it and how much of it you'd like to list (and which items if applicable) and we'll list it for you to get you started!

It doesn't matter if you've got five items or 500, as long as the listings are online already for us to copy. The offer is good for new sellers only and is a one-time-thing, so if you want to continue selling once we've prepped your initial listings (as we're sure you will do), you'll have to list further items yourself -although as you'll see, our ToyPedia powered listing process makes that super-quick and easy! Just email me on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to get started!

Introduce a Seller!

If you're not a seller, but you know someone who you think would like to be selling on Toy Collector or if you know someone who sells great stuff and who you'd like to buy from here on TC, pass the information along to them, as the offer's good for both existing and new members! We're also happy to extend it to anyone who is selling any sort of collectable toys or models - obviously most of the stuff listed so far has been vintage and modern diecast, tinplate items and modern toy soldiers, but we don't limit ourselves or our sellers!

Or sell something yourself!

And of course, if you're not a seller, it's pretty easy to become one! Just find something you want to sell, browse to its ToyPedia button and click the big red Sell button! It's free to list, remember, so grab those extras and give it a go!

Dine with Corgi's Marcel Van Cleemput!

Aviation Retail Direct BannerLast, but most definitely not least, in the runup to Christmas (yes, sorry, we know it's November, but believe me, it'll be worth it!) we're also arranging a special charity auction. We've arranged with Corgi's Marcel Van Cleemput for four members to join him for dinner in March 2012, during which you can, of course, ask him all those Corgi-related questions you've been always wanted to know the answer to! We'll be auctioning the four places on the site very shortly, so stay tuned for more information.

Member of the Month

Aviation Retail Direct Banner Our Member of the Month this time round is for July is toy-tek

A huge Tekno fan, and a member of our marketplace partner NAMAC, toy-tek has given us access to his vast reserves of Tekno-related data, including picture and details about colour variants, all of which has helped build up the Tekno pages on ToyPedia. He's also been one of the most enthusiastic marketplace proponents, having already listed lots of the fantastic Tekno models he has up for sale

We also particularly liked how when we were chatting to him last, he mentioned that the market reminded him of the early days of eBay - back when it was fun!

So a big thank-you to toy-tek for being so helpful and getting so involved and congrats on being member of the month!

The Numbers, the Blogs & the Forums

Aviation Retail Direct Banner We now have a huge 7,252 members (that's the biggest increase ever month on month - over 1,600!). They've helped create to 18,456 blog entries, and who enjoy chatting in our 137 discussion forums. In fact, they enjoy chatting so much, they've made an astounding 39,210 posts there! And they like looking at the 179,904 pictures in the 4,006 galleries too. Not to mention browsing the 150,000+ listings in ToyPedia and participating in their choice of the 33 Groups

Over in the blogs, we visited the Brussels Toy Museum, looked at possible connections between popular Hong Kong diecasters Yatming and Playart, revisited Revell's 1913 Maxwell, found a rare Minitanks retailer display and learned about the history of Marklin O Gauge trains. Not to mention taking a quick look at some chattering teeth!

Aviation Retail Direct Banner In the forums, discussion raged about the new Lego Supercar, the bizarre 70's concept Nissan 270X, and a tale of two cars (one being a Hudson and the other a Tucker). Elsewhere, a "junk" lot turned out to be anything but, Atlas reproduced more British Dinkies, some home-made Captain Action & Dr. Evil figures were on display and this awesome AMT Peterbilt model kit build continued!

Well that's all for now! More from me next month, but until then...

Happy Collecting!
