Lancer '68/'69 Roadrunner in 1/32

Categories // Slot Cars, manitouguy, Syndicated Blogs

Hi all here is one i had fun with today -

as usual a bit of a picture overload - the camera really does show / emphasize way more
detail than the eye / brain picks up

when i look at this one 'in hand' the edgers around the decals don't show up at all and the
metal flake is much less noticeable too!

i have had this 'vintage' lancer '68 / '69 roadrunner for nearly 10 yrs and always wanted to do something with it-

typical of lancers, very nicely proportioned and just enough detail

- i think it was likely from the '80s, a lancer repop of their original 1/32 body - this one is in lexan but still nicely done

what i liked about this one is it came with a repop black interior tray - clearly taken from the simple but effective
imc stocker interior - i think it works nicely

i had a spare imc rollbar so in it went - not sure if i will paint it or not

in the spirit of the great imc stockers, and to have something for their '69 chargers and torinos to race against on the
high banks i decided today to give it a go - still exploring what i might do with clear bodies to bring them to a level
of detail i would be happy with

sprayed in green because 1) dad had a dk green '70 satellite (base version of the roadrunner) which i recall riding around in for my earliest car rides and 2) lexan takes spray cans better than acrylic from my airgun ... and of the 'candy' choices it came down to blue or green - blue would be too Richard Petty, and so many cars are blue - so green it was and i like!

pull together a hodge podge of old decal sheets (funny i am still using some decals given to me a decade ago by Russell Sheldon as a kind gesture from afar before i knew anything of slot cars - again thanks Russell thumbsup.gif ), roll out the pactra trim tape and my favourite el cheapo stick on numbers -

and now we have a 'what if' '69 plymouth road runner stocker ready to earn its Darlington Stripes
(here just temporarily sitting on a static kit imc torino cobra chassis - wheel base is close, but
not quite correct!

if anyone can point me in the direction of lancer's sister car the '68? charger that would be wonderful - or if anyone has one to donate for repops even better!! would be nice to have some to run against the roadrunners

by the way the imc charger in blue is a spare body i have - and would gladly trade for a nice one in yellow or red
if anyone out there wishes -

more experience gained and lessons learned ... and one more from the project box a little further along!!

yes its toy like but thats the way i like them smile.gif

Indy Paxton Turbine reference

Categories // Slot Cars, manitouguy, Syndicated Blogs

I happened to be going through a mountain of old car mags the other night,
and whilst taking a break read the start of
Jairus Watson's fantastic build report on the Indy Paxton Turbine -

as chance would have it i had just flipped past a couple of images / articles on the car
so i went and set them aside thinking i would post for his and others interest sake -
guessing perhaps some had not seen, at least recently

tonight i popped in on Jairus' thread again (phenomenol work there Mr. Watson!!!)
only to find he had mentioned he hadn't
seen many quality pics of driver in car - and that he was preparing to paint in the moring ...

so hopping to the scanner i got these in - perhaps too late to be of use -
but will be an interesting read none the less

great engineering and overall work Jarius!! on a very interesting subject ...

from Motor Trend Dec '67 - a one page add with a very nice pic for reference

and in a little envelope, just like new ... some xmas gift great vinyl stickers
and coupon from STP to you smile.gif

and from Motor Trend May '68 - a lengthy article

cheers, Ron

not period but i had it out as the scanner was fired up - so it will lead off

gotta love those notchback stangs and darts!

this one came from the land down under ...!

Categories // Slot Cars, manitouguy, Syndicated Blogs

admittedly i don't know much about the Valiant Chargers from 'down under'
but came across
this article tonight -

i remember reading this at work and being a huge mopar fan, thinking ... hmmm
that's no dodge charger as i know it, but i like its mopar style and attitude all the same!

my boss at the time was from Australia and said he had one as a teen which he loved - and drove very hard

nice images of a neat mopar - and clearly it can melt rubber like its northern brethern!
cheers, Ron

more vintage trans am reference

Categories // Slot Cars, manitouguy, Syndicated Blogs

As with the first vintage trans am post - this one pulls a few articles each with a shot of what
appears to be the Craig Fisher Gagnon Springs '68 Firebird as i had been asked if i had any
such info,

here racing in '69 (except for the one shot from Friedmans book, in the pits from the rear
- i think that one is from '68).

to my eye this appears to be the same car, now renumbered as 62 and driven by Richard Brown?

first ... from Speed Age Aug '69

and from Stock Car Racing Nov '69

and a couple from Friedman's book

first Fisher in '68

and a couple shots from '69 season

i see in friedmans one shot at least, the roof has some dark color that the other images don't seem to
hmmm

I will run my theory past the trans am guys and link them to here as well and we will see
what they say!!

Flying Lizard/TRG Porsche 7th on grid for Daytona 24!

Categories // Slot Cars, Slot Car News, Syndicated Blogs

January 28, 2010 - Daytona Beach, FL - Patrick Long qualified the No. 67 TRG/Flying Lizard Porsche seventh in GT for this weekend's Rolex 24 at Daytona, the season-opener for the Grand-Am Road Racing Series. Joerg Bergmeister, Johannes van Overbeek and Seth Neiman will team with Patrick in the ShoreTel/Openwave-sponsored Porsche GT3 cup car for the 24-hour endurance race, January 30-31, 2009.

Patrick commented, "We've been totally focused in practice on race balance setup. We decided to make some radical changes before qualifying and they didn't pay off as we had hoped. The Mazdas clearly had the pole in hand. But with the progress we've made today and with tonight's practice we'll have a very balanced car for the race. Seventh is a respectable starting position: we've got a 24-hour race to win and I'm confident that our setup work will pay off this weekend."

Patrick Long and Bergmeister return to Daytona with the goal to repeat their GT win here in 2009 (with TRG). Bergmeister has won three times at the Rolex 24: in 2009, in 2003 (GT and overall) and in 2002 (GT), all with TRG. Bergmeister was also the Grand-Am Daytona Prototype champion in 2006 (with Krohn Racing). Bergmeister and Long are Porsche factory drivers and will be co-drivers in the Flying Lizard No. 45 Porsche for the 2010 ALMS season. With Flying Lizard, the duo won the 2009 ALMS GT2 drivers' championship.
