new website

I am proud (and relieved) to announce that my new website has finally taken shape and is live.
Please take a peek at it!

I created this website by myself. I'm not a web designer so it took forever as there was a big learning curve there (and still is!) I'm still not quite done with it. I have not tested it in another computer other than my laptop, so please give me feedback!

Guess who just moved in

Categories // Dolls, moeeeh!, Syndicated Blogs

Just moved in Thank you, Yuuki!

Awesome doll day for me today - no less than four packages had spent their Easter waiting to arrive at my house! [info]yuhime's Carol made it safe and sound, and has already gone through somewhat of a makeover. I've spray matted her (the can of MSC is my most valued tool as of lately, no one's safe..!) and also given her an extra row of eyelashes. I am not convinced about the eyelashes, though - they make her look even drowsier, don't they? She came re-wigged in Latte's stock wig, which is an awesome choice, but I've put LRRH's wig on her for now. It's a perfect fit for her eye chips and skin hue, but not so much for her eyebrows. We'll see.. (I giggled when I took off her wig, btw - cone head, much? Are all the rooted girls' scalp like that?) I've named her Kristin for now - partly because it's similar to the word Christmas (get it?), and partly because the only doll Kristin I know likes to give her girls eye brows like Carol has.

They still have Easter decorations here...Besides Carol, my first Dal arrived! It's a Drta, customized quite a bit - new eye chips, new wig, and a 25cm obitsu. She gives "wobbly" a whole new meaning, btw - I will have to look into a way to strengthen that body of hers. Seems as some of it may be helped if I can do something about her neck peg, but the torso keeps popping out of her hips too, so it's not just the head.. Carol stole the outfit I had planned for her, so I will have to go through the other tiny obitsu dolls to at least find her a pair of decent shoes. Right now she's wearing a pair of plastic Barbie sneakers.. I'm not convinced about her t-shirt either, but the jeans are perfect! Who would've known that I would praise Bratz, huh? ;) She was named Chicklet by her previous owner, and I am most probably keeping it - at least as a nickname. With my own nick being birdie - offline too - the coincidence was just too funny. Don't tell anyone that it's the same reasoning I am using to defend a future purchase of Tweety. ;)

The two other packages held a Little Pullip (Leprotto, I want to get all the animal dressed ones), and from JunkySpot: a basic Hujoo (soo small!!) and two obitsus - one for Haute NY and one spare for now. I haven't done anything with the Hujoo except for spray matting her face and upper body (I told you I like that MSC!), and dressing her. The eyes I had in mind for her have been given my custom Nomado head, and it turned out I didn't have any wigs that fit her. She won't be finished until next month, because my doll budget is spent and then some. The sales post at DM / elsewhere isn't exactly taking off, so not much help there.. The Hujoo's only hope is that the pending buyer makes up her mind to actually get the items she's requested - this means that I will get enough funds in my Paypal for a cheap fur wig and a pair of eyes. Cross your fingers for her! ;) Name? She's getting a chocolate coloured "twin" soon, in case that counts (like my two Liccas, who are Crystal and Pepper...).

Just Got Inked!!!!

Categories // Dolls, Tickled Pink, Syndicated Blogs

I just got this tattoo last night!!!! It spells out "doll face" on my knuckles. I choose that little phrase because, it's what I do (custom doll face-ups for my customers) and because I think I'm kinda cute! It's actually an old-school rockabilly saying for a cute girl :D

This is a little achievement award from me to me....a pat on the back to myself if you will...

Sooooo Haaaaaaaaappy!

Baltimore Doll Artist Alesia Newman-Breen creates both contemporary and historical dolls

Categories // Dolls, Historical Dolls, Syndicated Blogs

I was just sent a news announcement about dollmaker Alesia Newman-Breen. I had not encountered her creations before. The article that appeared in the Baltimore Sun displayed an image of some of her celebrity dolls and mentioned her website. I took a chance that she may have created some historical dolls as well and visited her website to find out.

I was rewarded by views of several historical personalities she has tackled including Marie Antoinette, Queen Victoria (both young and old), Queen Elizabeth (I & II) and Cleopatra. Her dolls are very detailed and her facial sculptures are quite realistic.

"Each doll is made by hand with hand-sculpted polymer clay head, breastplate, hands and feet, and a hand-constructed cloth-over-wire-armature body stuffed with polyester fiberfill. The eyes are handpainted. All garments and accessories are sewn and assembled by hand. Prices range from about $400 to about $600 each. The dolls range in size from about 14 to 18 inches."

From her online bio:

"Dollmaker Alesia Newman-Breen is also an actress, sculptor, graphic artist, writer, wife and mother who lives in suburban Baltimore, Maryland with her husband and son. A longtime member of the Screen Actors Guild, Alesia has appeared in many films, television programs and commercials. She played a newscaster in the science-fiction film "Species II"and appeared in dozens of episodes of the long-running Baltimore-based crime drama "Homicide: Life on the Street'. Alesia's unique dolls were featured on the "Fresh Faces" page of DOLLS Magazine in November 2002."

I had a wonderful time the last time I visited Baltimore, especially at the Walters Art Museum, and hope to return before too long. Maybe I'll get a chance to see some of Alesia's work on my next trip!

Plugging gear for your girl!

Categories // Dolls, moeeeh!, Syndicated Blogs

My online sister [info]cutsiedotnet has made the cutest socks ever, plus skirts and leg warmers - go check out her sales post at Shopadollic!

Other than that - tomorrow or on Thursday at the latest I will be paying for Carol! I also found a cute Little Leprotto on flickr, to keep Little Riletto company, plus I finally got around to order that basic Hujoo that I was supposed to get in January (I never realized that the confirmation email from hujoo.co.kr was my invoice, and they ended up cancelling my order..). The last doll purchase for April will be a SD bjd, a twin for my boy Shin. It's hard when the monthly budget is spent weeks before the money is in..! >__<

Tomorrow I am sending off three dolls - Veritas, Craziia, Butler - to Kristin, a Norwegian bjd collector and "doll knitting guru", to tempt her into Pullips collecting because she's curious to learn more about them and hopefully is looking into creating knitwear for them. She's been selling her stuff on DoA and a Norwegian doll forum, and just recently set up an Etsy store. All of my bjds except for little Belle have sweaters made by Kristin; my Domuya Potpourri girl has several knitted hats, and my U-noa boy even has a pair of socks! My mother is a major knit freak, but she hasn't got the patience for the finishing seaming of outfits that are that small (she loves knitting and hates seaming, and tiny doll outfits only makes that worse..!). Kristin is my saviour when it comes to getting modern, casual looking, knitwear - much of the knitted dolls outfits are otherwise a little bit too.. I don't know, dull? I've got hopes for a Pullip collection once Kristin has been persuaded by my girls' (and boy's) beauty!
