Dinky Toys 979 Racehorse Transporter
This month's 'big picture' (below) is of a breathtaking 979 Racehorse Transporter. Similar to the 980/981 Horse Transporter, this model was released with an alternative colour and livery, and 2 plastic horses were included.
In the example above, we were enormously surprised to discover the horses still sealed in plastic container. The model was originally advertised in the October 1961 Meccano Magazine and was released at a price of 15/4.
Three years after its release, the model was withdrawn in 1964. In mint condition this item can now expect to fetch upwards of £400.
