The Wunderland Car System

by MiniaturWunderland

Miniatur Wunderland VanWhen, back in the year 2000 the idea of the Miniatur Wunderland was born, the desire to extensively develop the then already known Faller-Car-System plus a computerized control system, was vital. First thought of as a supplement to the train layout, it turned out to be a whole project of it's own, consuming 2500 hours until the inauguration of the layout.

The Wunderland in 4 Minutes

Many visitors show up early in the morning and leave in the very last minute, only to come back next morning. The Miniatur Wunderland cannot be explored in a couple of minutes. Therefore, it is virtually impossible to show you the Wunderland in a 4 minute movie, but we can at least give your some impressions:

Hamburg - The Largest City in the Wunderland

by MiniaturWunderland

Hamburg is the hometown of the Miniatur Wunderland and the largest as well as the most densely populated city of the whole Wunderland (approx. 250 inhabitants per square meter live here).

About a quarter of the 50,000 inhabitants are gathering in the AOL Arena in order to watch the team of HSV closely beating the city rival St. Pauli. But Hamburg has to offer many more attractions - for Wunderland's people as well as for Wunderland's visitors.

1:87 Airport under Construction

by MiniaturWunderland

Within Wunderland's Alps (see our earlier blog article) an airport of 60 square meters is planned with every technical feature possible (Car System with supply vehicles, fire engines and the airplanes themselves). The airport will for sure be the largest model airport in the world, where many different airplanes (from A 380 to Cessna) will operate. The technology for the starting and landing process hasn't been completely developed yet. However, the development was started in May 2004 and we are working very hard to ensure that we may soon open this area. Meanwhile, the first terminals are built, the benchwork is partly up, and the first planes and vehicles are built and painted. Moreover, some technical components have been developed, built, and currently undergo thorough test runs on a special test layout. Planes can already be run computer-controlled along the taxiways, as does a pushback vehicle and the first airport bus. The first test runs for the start- and landing system are scheduled for the upcoming weeks. The Status quo is documented with the pictures below.

This picture shows the runway of our future airport. In the foreground you see the sledge with the two bars holding the airplanes during start and landing.

The Wunderland America Layout

by MiniaturWunderland

Today we are reporting from our American Section.  Opened already in 2003 America has some breathtaking landscapes to offer. The Keys and Cape Canaveral directly pass into Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon is only separated by a highway from Mount Rushmore and Yosemite Park. The United States of Wunderland are, compared to other areas, not very big, however they are full of attractions.  And since this is American there is also some quirkiness like the Christman Village and Area 51.

Las Vegas

Being the largest city in the US state Nevada, Las Vegas is particularly famous for it's high volume of casinos. This was the crucial factor for the decision to build Las Vegas instead of New York or Hollywood in the American section.
