I bought this one with parts of the tipper missing, but decided anyway to restore it. The most difficult thing was to remove the pin in the frame that holds the lifting mechanism. And I knew this issue was dicussed here a while ago

But with help of my Dremel and a grinder, it worked out good. I left a bit of an edge on the pin, hammered it out using a nail.
That way I could reposition it back in place, without glueing it. The cab has alrady been painted, the windows were fine

As bought:

After the caustic soda bath, ready to be primed

The original cab was grey, so I decided to give it the primer grey color. I know it is a bit darker than the original color.

The cab masked before painting the blue cab roof.

And the finished result

Very nicely done. I like it. Is the frame grey like the cab? It looks silver from where I sit.

RoutmasterNL, Nice work. I would say it "LOOKS FACTORY TO ME".

                     Your pictures are EXCELLENT!

Just a thought........ Remember those small files I pictured in a SUPERTOY post a while back. Some are flat, round, square, and triangular. All flat ones are thin and thus work well in confined areas. Very effective when you are patient. Sometimes I am not, so I must leave the project for a while.....

If I have a choice, I usually do not file the heads off any axle or rod, but I take the small edge off the peened sides by rotating the axle/rod as I file. I try to leave it with the axle diameter and full length. The axle/rod then slides out for reuse. This allows me to reuse the original axle and enough material for peening a new head on the finished product, or comparing length and diameter of material will use for a total replacement. If I do the replacement, I add a slight addition in length for the final peening of both ends. It becomes a fit and check process before I decide on reuse or replace. I hope this helps regarding that lift shaft that you have cut down with the Dremel.   dinkyboy

Thanks Dinkyboy, for the tips and tricks using the small files. Most of the time, if the "space" is there, i use the small files to filing the peened axle head, just as you do. In this case, there was not sufficient space doing that, so I had to use the Dremel.

Whenever possible, I reuse the old axles. This latelst restos +the ones that are awaitung the decals have the axles peened. I finally get that done without doing to much damage to the casting

I watched Nobleco's axle peening video a few times and that helped at lot

Best regards Theo
