Time to share the latest 3 restos off my bench. Two fairly easy ones and a conversion/code 3 of the Guy Snow Plough

The first one is the 30p Studebaker Petrol tanker.

As it was, battered and in played with condition, that is how I like to buy them

And after restoration it looks like this:

The second one is this battered Dinky 681 DUKW Amphibian vehicle. Missing 1 front wheels. I replaced all 3 sets of wheels with new ones, they were in my spare parts box.

And in a new coat of paint with new wheels

And the last one is the previous shown Dinky 958 Guy Snow Plough. Had to do a lot of work on it, bought 2 new boxes off Ebay and had to fill up the holes in the roof and in the grille. More detailled photos in another thread of Resto

As it was:

Stripped and filled the holes in

First coat of paint

New box, white metal

Does it fit? Yes it does

And the finished result. I did not remove the text on the base, to proof it is a code 3

I am happy with the results, hope you like them

Very nice Studebaker tanker you have there Theo. You did a really nice job on that one. Not much into the military stuff but that DUKW looks much better with a new coat of paint and new wheels. Got to love the parts bin.

The snow plough is great and the colors work well together. The casting of the box was not the best, I can see and that took a bit of work I can imagine. The finished results show it was worth it. As far as removing or not the name on the base, either would show it is a code 3 as I remove the Snow Plough when I do this model. There would be GUY if it was a real original so both methods work to show it is not an original Dinky Toy.

Thanks for your comments Jim,

I enjoyed the restos a lot and they all worked out great to my opinion

Lucky to save all 5 tyres on the Guy, just had to drill out the rivet that holds the spare wheel so had to replace that by a M3 bolt.  I used also the hollow axles and the original ones are in the spares box, the come in handy for sure oneday

The blue orange combo is a favorite of mine, where I used to live we had trucks in that color combo from a company that carried sugarbeet and I was always pleased seeing them passing my house

Is not Orange your National color?

Super job on the Studebaker. The warrior turned out nice too. Are they Corgi Rockets wheels the DUKW?

Thnaks Jay,

I don't know if they are Corgi Rocket wheels, they just were in the spare parts box and looked rather similar to the original and broken ones.

Heya Theo,

that's ok. Someone else may find a use for it.

I see you used green putty instead of the Tamiya grey.
Always thought the green putty worked well for war dioramas and train settings, but didn't like using it for diecast models or plastic kits.
Tamiya grey was much nicer to use as it was closer to primer colour as well.

but that's just MHO

Richard,

The putty I used is a 2 component filler used in the car industry, for repairing holes in bodywork of cars. It is glassfiber based and dries within minutes and then can be sanded, filed, dremeled straight away.

The issue of color never occured to me, good that you mentioned it.

I never used the Tamiya, shall try to find it

Thanks mate

Hobby shops carry the Tamiya Brand. I use it and it is just like a two part finish just takes longer to set. I do have other stuff that is 2 part and use it sometimes. Turns dark gray

Looks like all's well with the resto's and the minor repairs cannot be seen so good job there as well.
