I wonder if TPTB at Corgi had ever the notion to do this themselves at some stage in the future. It definitely completes this model.

The standard top up versus the modified top down.

thanks. the seats and mid-cosole didn't quite fit as the ex-firebird floor was slightly warped.

The backrests were from the Camaro.

ofcourse I have a few usable spare parts left.

thanks Jim and Jay, makes the Camaro more appealing doesn't it?

Now just need a couple of Whizzwheels to really complete it all.

Great job and looks really good both ways. Why Corgi did not produce it like this is a question for Marcel for sure.

Like you said, this conversion is so obvious that it can hardly be a coincidence, but of course we don't know the exact reason.

I think one possibility could be, that Corgi developed this and the Firebird at the same time and wanted to make one of them open, the other closed, but waited until quite late in the design process before deciding which would be which.

By using very similar components for the two, they left the options open.

Your code 3 looks totally original - I wonder if the Corgi designers once had the same view of the two versions sitting alongside each other and trying to decide which one to realease. Great job!

Yes it looks factory, but heading of the thread goes "EASIEST CONVERSION EVER". Now study the pictures again and see that has added the folded down top to one of the models.

I'm sorry, I thought I made it clear that the interior came from the Pontiac Firebird which comes as an opened convertible. Both models are very similar. Thus something I wanted to do for q while.

When I do my modification/restorations, I try to offer what the Factory did not. Craftsmanship along with the final idea portrayed makes this all worthwhile. Because it looks that good and could not be any better, I suggest that "It looks Factory" is one of the highest compliments that I would like to receive. Many folks do not realize that you can be limited with certain products, especially castings. Thus the idea to make a change is sometimes an easy challange for some and extremely hard for others. What is offered here at TC are works of art that go along with that idea, we all see it. I see all of that when I go through the multitude presented here. Just look at the Corvette XP-700. A truely Factory Job if I have ever seen one. My offerings I cannot compare to the artists within Toy Collector, but my effort is to keep it simple and offer a playworthy toy that will be appreciated and played with by a youngster and could have come from the factory. Also by many of us as a GREAT MEMORY which I believe we all share. Those were good times.

Hello Dinkyboy,

I guess I should roll with the punches when they come and should give you the benefit of the doubt.

its not a completely snug and perfect fit.

There are some complications between these 'factory' made parts.

But you will only notice those when you try it on yourself.

Fixing the bloody wreck of a Pontiac Firebird wasn't easy either especially as I had to modify the roof to fit amongst other things. The Camaro was made with indentations on the inside of the body that were not made on the Firebird, because the Firebird IMHO preceded the Camaro.

But I guess you don't like my Firebird conversion either.

We're a nice friendly bunch here who respect what everyone does with their collection.

Show us what you got then. I promise not to shoot you down like you did to me... twice in this post.
