any ideas on what to do with these, the mini i cut the roof off to make it a convertable, and the cortina was an average repaint which scraped off easy, they have had a coat of primer and now need to get some doner cars as the cortina was fitted with a taunus interior and window screen, the mini\'s base is poor.

How confident are you working with metal? I\'d make a new base for the mini out of thin sheet metal, brass or aluminum maybe. You could make a new base out of sheet styrene plastic, .040 or .080 will be strong enough, .080 is tough to work with, I double up on .040 myself. Check with Nobelco and see if he can get you an interior bucket for the Cortina, it may be available after market. Really want to see that mini finished, great idea!

What was wrong with the Mini\'s original baselplate?

Re:dinky mini clubman and mk2 cortina 3 years ago #5

a bit over the top with the mini, though i\'d try it and it worked really well, i hope this goes well,
ye theres nothing major wrong with the original baseplate it has speedwheels and there pretty beat up so want one in better condition.

The Cortina and the Taunus shared the same interior moulding; on the Cortina, the steering wheel was positioned on the right hand side, and on the Taunus it was on the left hand side. To facilitate this the interior had no dashboard detail. Did you keep or chuck the interior?

Re:dinky mini clubman and mk2 cortina 3 years ago #7

i kept the interior it is snapped where the dashboard meets the seats, needs a clean up and a better glue job, if its the case they are the same i will try to reuse the interior then.

Nice Mk2 Cortina. Where are the rally lights from? Or was this the rally cortina?

ye super impressed with it, it was originally the rally version with red trunk and bonnet, it was a poor restoration paint just scraped of with fingernails, so very easy to remove paint, just nned a new windscreen in it and interior and that will set off nicely.
