Here's where you can discuss all general diecast stuff - mystery items, ask who made a model of a particular car, ask for info about an obscure manufacturer or chat about anything else related to vehicles smaller than 1:1 scale!

It was designed by an american architect Mr Elliot Noyes .
He was commissioned by Mobil in 1964 to create an instantly recognisable and attractive design which could be used all over the world.

They were all christened The Magic Mushrooms, well it was the 60s

Makes you wonder what the designer was on??

Interesting and I don't think I have ever seen anything like that over here across the pond. Esso is a well known company but Mobil is only in the USA.

I don't remember seeing these in Denmark either, I wonder how many countries had them?

Apart from that, it's always a great thing when memories are preserved. Our world is changing fast and often a common feature can disappear almost completely in just a few years... just think about phone booths! But there's much more: road signs, traffic lights, bus stops change drastically in design, and the old types disappear to only live on in the memories of those who were there... unless they're lucky enogh to get preserved for future generations to see. And no: photos are just not the same as seeing the real thing.

I think most diecast collectors have a sentimental, nostalgic ore: we like to remember the past, that's why we collect vehicles of the past.

I too have never see them here in The Netherlands. I guess it was just a bit too fancy for us.

This one was designed by a famous dutch architect WM Dudok in 1954

It is now saved for future generations and at a museum site Nationaal Automobiel Museum in Raamsdonkveer

And is available as a kit in 1/87, by Busch
