I think there's a rule somewhere that every single toy company had to make a model of either the Mercedes C111-I or the C111-II.

C111-II by Corgi

C111-I by Ertl/Lintoy

C111-I by Playart, along with a Toyota 2000GT, another car that absolutely EVERYBODY made a model of...

I've got a green one from Politoys (#E16) missing a door, and my best preserved childhood-model from Matchbox Superkings, but no photos of any of them

The Politoys is hiding somewhere in a box, probably under my bed and while the Matchbox is almost right next to me, I'm too lazy for a photoshoot right now.

Cheating a bit here, since I don't own these, but they do serve the point of showing the many different versions available.

Nacoral #111 (how clever!) scale 1/43 also available in red and with classic wheels.

Nacoral #3502, scale 1/24 also available in...

...silver

That's interesting - it's not Yatming, but it might be Welly. I've never seen it before. Is it yours?

Re: 50 Mercedes C111's 1 year, 5 months ago #7

Platinum Boarder
might be a Welly... doesn't say. I repainted it sometime ago, and the louvered sticker on the rear is from Lego Miniland sticker sheet.

I glued it back together rather badly.

Wow you did a good job on the repaint, I'd never have guessed it wasn't original, and the sticker looked original too!

painting was easy... the rest not so much.

just a cheap china model from an unknown maker.

Might get around to fixing up my mistakes.

Ah, It has a "T" number, so may be Tintoys.

Re: 50 Mercedes C111's 1 year, 5 months ago #11

I still think its a Yatming from the early Nineties

Re: 50 Mercedes C111's 1 year, 5 months ago #12

Platinum Boarder
Definitely not Yatming - they put the maker's name on the base and never had any reference numbers on the models. They did use these wheels, but so did Welly and a couple of others.

ETA: Sini has a pic on his site, and ID's it as Tintoys too;

ok then, I have a couple of identical models of a different make. One has Yatming on its chassis... the other is blanked out. Will it still be a Yatming?

wheels on the Tin Toys is different.

also the black grille appears to be separate from the body of the car.

I repainted mine black because it was the same colour as the yellow interior - therefore one piece. Also painted part of the windshield.

Still, there's always benefit of the doubt.

Actually you might be right - now I think about not, not all Yats say Yatming on the base, but they never have numbers like this one does - I'm pretty sure anything with a "T" number is Tintoys and anything with a "WT" is Walker Toys.

Re: 50 Mercedes C111's 1 year, 5 months ago #15

Platinum Boarder
agreed... the number is odd.
but usually don't put much stock in numbers, not anymore nowadays - since Mattel pushed its strange numbering system on Matchbox and Corgi.

btw - Sini's collection is quite nice, but not very complete. There's some massive gaps in there - and that's just on the Mercedes models. Although there are a few there I don't have, there's a whole lot more I do have.
