Odd air intake on your Corgi P34. I don\'t remember them having that kind of scoop on them. When I saw them race at the Long Beach Gran Prix in 1977, they didn\'t have an intake scoop, the engine was covered with a body panel. Made for a very elegant looking car. I think number 4 went out early, and number 3 finished 4th.

Heya Rob, I remember reading in one of my books they made several versions of the Tyrrell\'s. The last model was just your conventional 4 wheelers. The really early ones had these bullhorn scoops, and the one you have there was one of the last developments.
Here\'s one in a museum.

Tyrrell made lots of his own chassis\' over the years. He started in 1971 when he became unhappy with the chassis he was using and had the P001 chassis designed. The six wheelers were the 34th design, hence the P34 or program 34 designation. Not sure I\'ve seem that intake before, the one I remember was the big single over the top of the roll cage when Scheckter and DePallier were driving for him. The P34 was successful with lots of podium finishes for both drivers. The idea was sound, more tires increases the amount of rubber in contact with the track surface, increasing cornering ability. Amazing cars, I had the pleasure of seeing them unloaded from the haulers and while in the garage area inside the arena at the LBGP.got to meet Scheckter as well, very patient man and answered all my questions.

The \"bull horns\" air intakes were run on the car for one race at Jarama for the Spanish GP in \'76 and they matched the intakes of the Tyrrell 007 which Scheckter drove since both team cars were not completed.  The Corgi is a replica of the car Depailler drove in that race.  Qualifying 3rd, the car showed its potential, but suffered from brake overheating on the front four wheels, a problem that it had the two years they were run.  For the rest of the 1976 season, the car had the high intake box like most other F1 cars of that time.
In 1977, the P34B had no airbox, the  \"First National City\" liveried cars.  I think Corgi did that one as well.  The lack of tire development by Goodyear put an end to the six-wheel design, as front tire distortion troubled the car through out its life.  F1 later passed a rule that only four wheels were allowed on cars.
I guess I am too much of a purist, I never did car for the design when new.

Thank you for the info. I had not heard the bull horns used before. I like the large intake myself, and at the time of the 77 LBGP, I was in the same boat as you with the oddball design. Getting the close up in the garage really changed my opinion of the car. The steering mechanics impressed me, and I believe that the #4 car did retire from that years race with a brake issue. There were several articles in the paper about the P34 before the race that year, and none mentioned the brake issues, they only talked about the six wheel design.

I still need some decals put on mine, another little project on the backburner.

Bought this Corgi in one of the many redcross shops dotted in my locality a little over 20 odd years ago

I don\'t believe anyone else has posted this one, so here goes:  it is a 1957 Maserati F250 Grand Prix car, by CMC in 1:18 scale.  For those of you not aware, this is probably the iconic front engine grand prix car of the late 1950\'s, and was made in various configurations from 1953-1957.  In 1957 Juan Manuel Fangio drove one of these at one of the all-time great races...the German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring, and broke the lap record on almost each of the last several laps to overtake the leading Ferrari and win his last and fifth World Championship.......a lovely car!

Its a 2.5L V12, normally aspirated engine.  I agree with Terry, one of the all time best F1 cars and the CMC is fantastic!
