not sure why they made this one but it is an extraordinary Ford Mustang.

I think Matchbox-Mattel later modified it as a proper convertible.

but in the meantime good luck finding this model ever.

A pair of them.  The red/white is a Vitesse (Portugul), the other an Altayla (Spain) Both 1/43 and nicely detailed.

You would have seen a few of these about Geelong in the old days, Jim.  This was my '59 from about 10 years back.  My mate's '57 is behind it.

GeorgeT, I don't know about Geelong and I sure don't know about your mate's or your Fords...... Maybe I will visit Geelong some day. The name sounds intriguing. The red and white Ford leading the wedding march looks to me a 1955 non-U.S. version = Canadian or Australian because of the round "parking/turn signal lights" along with the star in the grill, the hood ornament, and the side trim molding falls away from the paint lines. I have seen these in Canada. The next Ford I see, a 1956 U.S. version. I have worked on many of these. The flat "parking/turn signal lights", side trim with the little molding strip dropping off below the top molding, and of course the V8 emblem on the front quarter panel before the wheel opening. Maybe Ford Motor Company presented them at different years than the U.S. and your call is what it is, you know your car better than I do. dinkyboy

There has always been a strong manufacturing relationship between Fords Australia and Fords Canada as most of the knock down (KD) Ford V8's came from the Canadian factories and assembled in Geelong until the 1970's when Geelong stamping and engine plant started to produce their own designed Fords. There were some parts made in Geelong for the conversion over to the right hand drive and I think the seat covers were also manufactured here at the Geelong Plant for the Customlines.

Geelong is an Australian Aboriginal name water bird called a Curlew. So they say. This refference would be the Totum for the area.

Yes GeorgeT I do remember riding around in those Customlines and Star Models in the 1960's around McCann Street and up at Tail Light Ally on a Saturday night having fun.

I think I might have posted this one somewhere on here.

Lewis Brandit's designed ute for a nice lady who wanted an all-round car so her husband could take her to church on Sundays and throw the kids in the back and on Mondays take the calves to market. So they say.

Yes, Dinkyboy, your right about the years of those Fords. Australia got everything a year or two later than the States releases. My red/white Sedan, (Lead car in Wedding shot) was a 1959 Australian release, called a Star model and it in fact used the Canadian left overs as it was the last run of that body shape.  The second car was an Aust. 1957 release.  We called them Customlines down here.

GunnerJim, We use to call it , "going down the ave."
Have you ever seen the movie American Grafitti? One of my favorites. It was set in California, although we had the same real scenes in New Jersey.
My generation. Great times and memories.
Another favorite movie of the same period, "Mischief".
For both movies, many of us can say "Been there done that............"

Hi GeorgeT

I suppose it doesn't really matter that much but your "Star" model was released in Australia in 1958 and the one behind was released in 1956. '59 was the "tank" Fairlane.
