For many years my, one of my 'other' collections of consist of Hippo's of all sizes and types from wooden hippos to Britains hollow cast lead hippos.


It was while checking out the lead hippos I had that I realised not all of them were Britains, in fact 3 are from John Hill Company or Johillco as they were better known.


Their range of lead animals and soldiers became serious competition for Britains and the range almost as vast.


Now out of the blue I have aquired some more Johillco lead animals, this time horses and have so far put 4 together and is now starting a new collection, no doubt in time the Britains version will also grace this collection among others.





As a point of reference I found this website listing many other companies that mead lead animals, soldiers and other accessories.

Yes it is marvelous to find so many toy manufactures and it is sad to say that the number of toy companies that used to exist have now disappeared. Good link thanks
