If you use the word beer in Cologne, they know you are an outsider.

In Cologne they don't drink beer they drink Kölsch.

I never knew they made bikes in the former DDR. I always thought they were made in Russia and renamed in the DDR.

They have an impressive exhaust-pipe!

MZ is a cousin of DKW. MZ existed until the 80 's. Were also could be bought via a dispatch house (NECKERMANN) to West Germany.
The impressive exhaust-pipe is for a motor with 150 ccm.

Large exhaust usually means loud noises from the engine that need to be calmed down to a reasonable lever before getting out of the exhaust. Decibels and the levels set by the government determine how quiet a bike will be. You need to comply so the reasons some bikes have larger pipes than others. 1 1/2" x two for the Harley Davidson and mine was 1200ccm and they are larger by far now both in pipe size and in engine size so larger baffles to make it quite enough.
