The under-slung heavy duty lorry was Introduced into britians catalogue in 1938. It was incorporated with a morris-type cab unit with a square nosed radiator. The slung lorry was used for a variety of jobs for the military area, but never used as a civilan vehicle. Painted in britians semi-matt khaki colour and the later versions became dark green with a rare pale royal air force blue livery. Rubber tyers where use first and when the war came and rubber was not to be used they went to all metal wheels, they all had the 18 wheels,2 hinged doors and a driver. You had 3 attachements to use for them, the aa gun unit , a searchlight witch you could have put a flat battery in the forward container to make it work, and you have the winch and barrage ballon unit. The slung-lorry was on sale from 1938 to 1941 then re-issued after the war  in 1946 for one year only. With the round nose cab version as its replacement in 1948, but was deleted from the catalouge that same year.

Thanks Dazza, for the excellent photos iand information on the rare lorry.

I have never seen it before and although I am not so into the military stuff, I really like this lorry.

Imaging you being a child and opening this one up as a present on your birthday

Thanks for sharing

Oh and I forgot to say: that barrage balloon, is superb, must be quite heavy or is it a hollow one?

the barrage  balloon is hollow and you had to use wire to hold it up when you played with it. The one in the pics is for the lilliput series as i havent got a pic off the large one but you get the idea, cheers daz

Very nice sets and all battery operated too. That is most unusual for the era.
