This is made from wrecks I had here, the Albion cab was off a Dinky concrete mixer it was broken off the chassis about 20mm behind the cab. The Foden chassis I bought for the original deck the cab had a mudguard missing and was cracked through at the back of the cab.The air cleaner and exhaust are made from a Matchbox Peterbilt air cleaner set. Better than just wasting the parts I joined them up!

Looks wonderful and serves as yet another reminder to never throw anything away, at least not anything diecast related

Nice save!

Great work Ronson,

You even painted the inside of the cab in a darker shade of blue, never thought of that.

Could easily have been a real Dinky

Thanks for sharing

I agree, nice work and great idea for recovering broken toy parts. I like it.

Very wel done!

In fact, Meccano conceptualized an Albion 8-wheeler in the early 1950s already, the Albion Tanker 'Milk Marketing Board'. An older cab design of course. The mock-up and drawings are still in existence. They were auctioned by Christie's South Kensington in 1995:

Much later, a replica was made of that model and also of an Albion Flat Truck, not an official Dinky design:

Nice job indeed. Great colors too.  Do you have progress shots of how you rejoined the cab/chassis?

Nice job, well done

Is it just an illusion or is there a slight difference in the mudguards ?

Thanks fellas,I do have some pics of before and during!

There wasnt a lot of chassis left behind the Albion cab, I slotted the Foden
chassis to take the bits of chassis rail I had left on the Albion cab, then put
two slots either side of the rear base plate rivit pedestal below the top rail
of the chassis. The little box had to be removed from the top of the Albion
chassis as well. With everything all filed up to fit including the mudguard
brackets on the Foden chassis so they fitted around the Albion mudguards, I
superglued them together it took a bit to get everything square and to get the
cab at the correct height so the second steer axle still touched the ground. Then
I put one flat plate on the Foden chassis just in behind were the Albion chassis
stopped then put another strip on of that plate and the Albion chassis to give
it strength. With the two Albion chassis rails slotted into the Foden chassis
rails it meant they were able to be used as mount as well so to strenghten
everything up I used some key steel and glued it in place to the Foden chassis
and the Albion chassis rails. I would say that this would be as strong as the
original castings I put a fair bit of pressure on the chassis after the glue was
dry and nothing budged. The deck is an original and I didnt want to alter it so
I left the two tags at the front of it that normally go into the back of the
Foden cabs and used that for the mount for the air cleaner and exhaust, then just
bared a bit of metal on the chassis and deck and glued it down at the front with
an orginal screw and nut at the back. I guess I could have drilled a hole up
front of the deck and used a screw and nut to hold it down but as I said I didnt
want to ruin the deck it should come off still if I really want it to without
being damaged. This has turned into a novel but its a bit hard to explain
hopefully the pics will help!

Seeing the amount of work you have done and the end result, I would say this would be a very special and unique Code 3 rebuild.  Well done.  I am about to get started on some restoration work, as opposed to my everyday modifications to newer castings.  So the hints, tips and photos are invaluable.  Thanks for the post.

Ronson, your construction pictures are great. I must not have access to any good super glues, so my method is with rivets and screws. Your work is EXCELLENT! Well done. Again........"LOOKS FACTORY". dinkyboy

Excellent work and this is the type of work that most interests me, restoring and converting old Dinky toys.... Top class work and I would say you were well pleased with the end result...
