Semis, artics, pickups, vans, road trains - whatever they are and whatever you call them, if they're used to transport stuff, here's where to talk about them.

I can not resist of sending you the picture of a stean Foden which I planned to build. It is for me the strangest modification of a war Foden, two boilers on the flat  platform were used for cleaning uniforms, better said removing the vermins from cloths. If you are interested, I still have two or for views of this machine. Greetings from the Czech republic, Jan Mostek.

Thanks for those stunning pictures!, this is a model i have made (will post pictures as soon as i can find it) the Foden Wagon was indeed in service with the british army, but many were also used by the french army also used as model disinfection units. The reason they chose to use a steam lorry is that the steam helped to de-louse the uniforms in the chambers, and they had a ready supply already on board with a steam lorry. the chimney extension i believe was to increase efficiency(it was harder for the excess steam to escape up a longer chimney maybe?). The railway style 'buffers' on the front (smokebox) of the wagon are a unique wartime adaption, that meant the wagon could be used for pushing and shunting pretty much anything.

Sentinel wagons were also used by the British Army, but few were sent abroad, and they were used in the UK for logistics purposes.

You mentioned Sentinel. Do you know that it was made under licence in Czechoslovakia? Here is a pocture of Czech Sentinel modified for collecting the town dust bins.

And, as for the desinsector on the Foden, dont you havy any picture of steam pipes connection between the boiler and desisecttor as a such?

Excellent work there, i love the way you have weathered them, quality work.

I have seen a few of the steam fodens myself as i've been to the great Dorset steam fair, and want to go this year.

Thats an interesting picture yes they were made under licence by Skoda? Mostly using components from the Sentinel Super. Sadly i don't have any pictures of military fodens at all :/

In a little Models of Yesteryear corner of my displays I found this Sentinel Steam Wagon, a typical early vintage model. It 'aged' in a natural way, because it is in my collection for over fifty years, after some initial years of much play-fun.

Yes, Hupps99, I am glad you seems to be familiar with Czech vehicle manufacturers. The Czech Sentinels were made by company Skoda, then one of the biggest Czech machinery company. The car-producing branch was sold after so called velvet revolution to German Volkswagen.

One more note concerning the Czech Sentinels, look at

for idea of my friend who wanted to rework the Lledo Sentinel into Czech versions. Following page shows more photographs of original Czech-made vehicles:
