TOPIC: Ural 4320 Military Truck (in ZIL-131 box)

This truck I got as a result of a swap in mid-2002. I was very much a fan of a TV show called Xena: Warrior Princess. As a result of the fandom and being aptly located in New Zealand where XWP was made, I collected quite a bit of info on the actors of the show. Turned out a young Russian Xena-fan was more a fan of the late Kevin Tod Smith who played Ares God of War in the series - he died tragically in early 2002 after a fall from a set in China. The Russian fan wanted a lot of my information on this actor and I was happy to oblige.
What I wanted in return was a simple Russian toy truck that was available in any toystore. I was thrilled when my truck arrived a few months later: a URAL 4320 Military Truck (in ZIL-131 box).

The box is a bit small for the URAL. Probably the ZIL-131 is smaller.

And lastly we compare its humongous scale compared to a Dinky Euclid and a little Lesney Bedford.

I have a few more Russian trucks to show, a Van and a car. My Russian collection is a bit limited.

Last Edit: 2 years, 12 months ago by RVREVO. Reason: googled the correct truck

Actually this is the Ural 4326 4x4 8 ton Russian army truck. Finished in standard Russian army green/black chassis. It also has the smaller chunky wheels for this model.

Further the Ural 4320 is a 6x6 diesel engined truck, and the Zil 131 6x6 is a 3 ton V8 petrol engine truck which is very thirsty in fuel.
The Zil was the winner over a 6x6 version of the Gaz 66 4x4 2 ton truck.
The Soviets had a fair number of fatal accidents with the Gaz 66 4x4, because the cab is of the tilt type, and they found that the locking bolt to stop the cab tilting, broke rather easily when ever the trucks were going down a steep incline, hence the cab tilted forward crushing the steering wheel into the driver.
Lastly you will find that Soviet export Urals to African countries are of the earlier Ural, namely the Ural 475, identical to the 4320 truck except it also has a thirsty V8 petrol engine.
The early Gaz 63 4x4 Soviet army truck, originally had a Studebaker US6 cab, as a prototype, but for some reason a new cab was designed for the Gaz 63, although it resembles the Studebaker in shape.
Also according to my information, when the Soviets discovered that all the lend lease vehicles were being scrapped by the Americans upon their return, the Soviets then ceased to return any more. Refurbished by the Soviets not only did they remain in army service, but were also supplied in quanity to allied countries to the Soviet cause.
I trust this information will be of some use to fellow modellors.
