interesting coincidence and a great photo... considering camera's were not that good on exposure in those early days.

Ian,
Are these two 62g the Boeing B 17 C flying fortress monoplane or the Long range bomber variation ?

Hi Jacques, although the Dinky remained virtually the same in appearance (except for the name underneath and the gliding hole), the real one did not. Soon there was a change to the USAF with different markings, and the armament was augmented considerably. So, in Dinky terms, this is not the Longe Range Bomber, but the Boeing 'Flying Fortress', pre-war scene as it is. Regards, Jan

In addition, here are both model variations: pre-war on the left, post-war on the right:

This is the wooden mock-up of the B17. Note that there is no marking.

DaveF, .......and we survived. We had Chryslers for most of the work. Big and very fast. Always in top shape, push bumper to rear bumper. The pick-up was moderate, it was meant for comfortable high speed which they could and did daily. Nothing out ran those Hemi-4 doors. Jags, Ferraris, the American Muscle car, hot rods, and I even had a Maserati try. But it was only a try........... We just caught up, hooked on, and paced them until they got tired of looking at us in their rearviews, smiling and inches from their rear bumper. When we figured enough is enough, sometimes a slight tap to let them know we were there and they had no place to run. Many of them climbed from their steeds shaking and babbling incoherently, probably thinking we were a bit bonkers, I think the UK might call it that. Nope, we had special pursuit training and had to re-qualify annually. Always courteous, respectful and with a smile. Only Lap style Seat Belts then..... Maybe we were. Again, glad you survived. dinkyboy

dinkyjay, those were prototypes of the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. Note, no tail or turret guns. The stripped tail marking, another giveaway. dinkyboy

Talking about loosing your hood, I had a 1964 Impala and the hood flipped up while I was with some buddies on bikes, all Harleys, mine was being painted. On a small highway, two lanes each way and no divider. I had two bikes on either side of me help me get over the bridge and off to the right side of the road. We took the hood off and tossed it in the ditch beside the overpass. Never did replace it. The car was a free donor for my other 2 door Hdtp that eventually turned into an SS model. I lost the hood off a four door.

Interceptor motors is what Ford had here in Canada but out in New Westminster they had a 1957 Chevy Bel Aire that was a sleeper car. Just waiting to drag race you and then pull you over. Had a few friends loose their cars to him. Sneeky

Nobleco, Jim, where is that hood? Don't you know you threw away a great sled for winter downhill races...... Honest, we did that with junked hoods.
Some lawenforcement units will stoop low with the sucker car.
We assisted a particular town with a speed trap. A real Speed Trap. Laying on a blanket atop a slight rise, we shot them with the RADAR gun and radioed the offender to the this particular town's constables. Around the bend 1/2 mile past us, one of our guys monitored that the tickets were written by the locals, His presence assured the justification of the request for our help. That town made lotsa money, our personal satisfaction was we did not have to investigate any accidents on that stretch for many months.
That was not stooping low, that was out-right-low-of-the-lows....... heh heh heh I bet u they don't do that stuff any more.......

We were highly trained too. We used Austin A110 Westminsters back then which were quite big and heavy by UK standards. Great to drive though, 4 speed manual gears, and the 3 litre engine was adequate for the city suburbs where I was stationed.

We worked those cars pretty hard. After one particular pursuit I pulled up behind the offender, and the brakes were so hot the front brake pads burst into flames.

DaveF, now that was a pursuit. We sat a lot, very obvious, preventive enforcement. Average speed was 85 to 95mph unless we were in a hurry. I never burned up a set of brakes though..... dinkyboy

The odd Motocart, Dinky Toys no. 27g/342:
