And the Riley ; the real one has a beautifull mechanism with chains to open the front window as you can see in the picture , I don't know if that was standard.

I feel sorry for the crippled Chrysler driver, but he is pivileged to drive such a car.

Nice object to have, RVREVO!

The Austin Atlantic even had a pair of them. Nowadays these stylish but deadly 'weapons' would be strictly forbidden ...

Time for some more Swedish cars. Unfortenately the Volvo was never issued in the two-colour scheme shown in the catalogue.

184 Volvo 122S (better known as 'Amazon' in Sweden).

Very nice Volvo Dinkyman. That twotone looks great. I have a whitemetal kit of an Amazon, so that will be a twotone for sure

In Canada it was marketed as the Volvo Canadian. A buddy had one in the early 1970's and it was a nice comforable car to ride in. Too bad he wrecked it by putting it in a ditch. Not his fault though as he made a slight left turn and a car behind decided to pass him at the same time. Pushed him into the ditch and wrote the car off.

His was Green. A quick google search turned this one up. It even has Red Spot Wheels.

The planes on the Silver City Airways were Bristol 170 Superfreighter. I remember flying different routes on them with my Renault 4 or my wife's Sprite Mk. II. The twelve seats cabin was not presurised and very drafty. Blankets were distributed to the passengers.
The routes I used were Cherbourg - Southampton, Le Touqued Lydd and Calais - Shouthend on Sea. This last route was very convenient as at the time I used to go to Cambridge and the M 2 was not build so this avoided the driving in Kent were the roads have hardly improved since.
More about Silver City Airways here : www.silvercityairways.com/the_company.htm

                                                Dieppe July 1956.

The price was not more expansive than by ship but much faster. It must be remembered that in the late 50's the cars were lifted into the hull of the ship by a crane as shown above. My fathers car been loaded in Dieppe.

Thank you, Routemaster.
I found the photo of the first Amazon with painted window frames. Looks like Dinky used that specific photo for the illustartion in the catalogue. It is exactly the same angle.

This was maybe just a pre-production car. The cars that followed had not painted window frames and came in four different colour variations.

Dinkyboy,

About the car being loaded I have not a clue but I suppose that some one here will know. The cars were always loaded front first as on this picture, never in reverse.
