TOPIC: Rare pre pro on feebay

I think the thing to emphasise is that the drawing of a Daimler Fleetline that has been posted is just an example of one bodybuilder's style. The Daimler Fleetline (and Atlantean) are chassis - literally, the wheels, engine and driver's seat bolted to a running unit, and what the bus looks like depends on exactly who builds the body and what the customer wants.

The Matchbox K15 is a not-very-accurate example of the London Transport Daimler Fleetline with Park Royal bodywork. The small Matchbox No.17 Londoner was from 1972-81 a much more accurate version of that bus (clearly one was not scaled from the other). From 1981 a brand new casting was made and it is that later one that is modelled on the Leyland Titan. The Titan, unlike the other buses mentioned, was an 'integral' bus so the body was part of the bus and they therefore all looked the same apart from any customer-specified detailed differences.

I suppose we must consider that they are all toys and not scale models although we do like them to be accurate to a degree.

ok then, now that we've gone completely off-topic, let's get back on track.

The question is if the Jubilee bus on Feebay is a Pre-Pro or not.

However this bus obviously replaced the other Atlantean and looks more like the '72 Titan.

so the question is when did the Jubilee replace the Regent???

Both of the National and Woolwoths buses Number 297 came out in 1977 and are listed at the same price of 20 to 30 British pounds in the price guide I am using. There are other Atlantean bus that were released much early like the Number 292 in 1962 and 1963 Ribble and BP followed by the Atlas Kenebrake 1963  then Yellow Pages in 1973 having the same Number for 295.

Looks like those Atlantean buses being discussed in this thread are the lucky last by what I have been reading. Moreover the information in the dinky Toys 75th Anniversary Toy Price Guide is not as thougher as maybe other books on Dinky Toys.

The Model Price guide 199 list both of the buses as Jubilee at 15 to 20 BP and the Woolworths Promotional at 25 to 30 BP. So who has the latest price guide to these two buses, which would indicate the one which is in more demand due to the scarcity. Well maybe.

I had a silver London Taxi with my bus.

Assuming that its a weird out of scale set considering the Austin is huge in 1/36

My uneducated guess would be Richard. In 1963 when there was a change of decal for  Atlantean bus that came out with the BP decal in red and white red and yellow picture box.  While the Ribble decal red and white in same type of coloured box was in 1962.

Both these buses share the same model number 292.

As for the Jubilee buses then they came out in 1977 with the model number 297.

might've been designed in 1976 and released for 1977.

Anyway... we need more experts on the subject matter.

Why would Dinky show two completely different type of stickers on the same bus?

What are the chances that the original sticker is underneath the coloured sticker?

I have just got this mint bus from an auction house in East Sussex (England). It was sold for a factory made prototype.

Jacques, I see your bus has an extra Decal on the side. The Diamond Jubilee logo is not on the other buses in this thread and I don't think it was on the one on eBay either. I assume you have some sort of provenance to show it is a Pre Production bus?

I see now, this is the 2012 Diamond Jubilee bus and not the Silver Jubilee bus that started this thread, My Mistake.

It figures they would use the same casting too.

Isn't this Buss you have depicted for the 60th year riegn of Queen Elizibeth Diamond Jubilee that is to occur in 2012. So how come it is a Dinky Prototype of the buss that was released for the Silver Jubilee 25th year reign of the Queen in 1977?

Or am I lost again as usual. Is it an Atlas or a Code 3

Jim, I don't think it is either of what you suggest but is in fact a proto type if only for the livery. It is a new release for 2012 and there is usually a pre production model or a number of them made before production of the real salable models begins. I for one would like to have one. I have the other Silver Jubilee bus, Made by Corgi, a London Transport Routemaster but no Dinky ones.

So the prototype is not from the old Dinky injection die from Binns road then. OK so who will be marketing them with those decals and I suppose Model Collector magazine will have something on these new releases when they become available.

I would think it would be Hornby as they own Dinky now and I believe Corgi as well

This bus is definitely a code three and not a pre-prod model. Any fool can cut the labels from a catalogue and paste them on a Silver Jubilee bus. Some one got screwed of £ 50 which is not too bad as in June 2009 some one sold a Dinky Toys Austin A40 code 3 van for £ 6400. Of course it was sold as an original which it was not as Meccano never made even a colour sample.
Meccano would not have made such a bad example where the sticker at the front is much too large, over the route sign and both sides would have been decorated or left blank without the silevr jubilee transfer.

Recently, Jan wrote on this site : "never trust a photo". The Diamond Jubilee bus does not exist, it is only a touched up picture on which I have changed the date at the front, the text on the side and added the diamond logo. So it is an original Dinky casting and such busses may come on the market in a few days, they will all be code three so do not pay too much for any of them. The Queen's reign jubilee was a couple of days ago.

Nobleco.

Hornby does own Corgi but it is Mattel who owns DINKY but not DINKY TOYS.
