Diecast - Restored or Original Group Forum: I have great admiration for those spending much effort, cash and time in the restoration of old diecast models - especially if the work is of good quality. But it's more than a little disappointing to later discover you've been sold a restored item which the seller stated was in its original condition. It's happened to me and I know it's happened to others, and it will discourage some from continuing the hobby. There are sometimes obvious signs of restoration but there are many things we can miss especially when we find a piece we've been seeking for ages, excitedly believing we've finally got the chance to buy what the seller is saying IS an original item. And don't be fooled by the heavy paint finished car sitting on a tatty original box - it does happen (visit the popular video site we all know and look carefully!) Many years ago I discovered a model AND its packaging were not original. The card was slightly thicker and felt heavy - but I was lucky to have previously handled many models and boxes, and I knew it just didn't feel right. I'm not out to wage war on brilliant works of restoration, providing the items are sold as such it allows some of us to buy certain models which we otherwise could not afford. Anyway, maybe someone has something to add - helpful tips and pics for comparisons maybe? Good hunting to all.

Technic Lego Group Forum: Bricksters shows the overall of Lego collecting, but a sub-group of a certain genre like Technic Lego will focus on very specific areas of development.
Technic had its early beginnings with colored radwheels (yellow, blue, red), white axles, grey bricks with holes and red connectors. Those were the humble beginnings of how machines like 'Windmills' worked. The 4.5 electromotor block that powered the trains couls also power the coloured Technic Lego wheels. In the late Seventies Technic Lego evolved dramatically with grey rads, colored long rods with holes in the beams and several different types of connectors. At the top of this evolutionary foodchain stood the Supercar Chassis where this realistic model showed in its origins how a car works with a combustion engine, gearbox, drivetrain and differential. It also showed the working steering from the steering wheel, and adjustable seats. Every 5-10 years a newer revolutionised model would appear with evermore evolving new Lego pieces to help the inventors of Lego be ones step ahead of the kids that had other ideas. Back in the day I tried my best to build radical concepts with what little I had. Nowadays... well, I do have my favorites (8880), and I do have the latest (8070). I hope to show them on here. You may too if you want. |
